NWR availability is the trickiest in Namibia — the popular camps sell out months ahead, and the booking system rewards patience. Send us your dates and we'll check the whole system for you, no fee, and tell you honestly what's genuinely available.

How the inside-the-park system works

  1. The rule

    NWR has the sole mandate for beds inside the national parks. Every private lodge, however luxurious, is outside the gates. If you want to sleep behind the gates — Etosha's waterholes at midnight, Sesriem's inner gate before dawn — it's NWR or nothing.

  2. The trade

    You're paying for position, not polish. The camps are functional: honest rooms, campsites, a shop, a pool, a restaurant. Travellers expecting boutique-lodge finish are happier outside the gates; travellers who came for the wildlife rarely regret a night inside.

  3. Etosha

    The floodlit waterholes are the prize. Okaukuejo, Halali and Namutoni each overlook a lit waterhole where rhino, elephant and lion drink after dark — Okaukuejo's is world-famous for black rhino. Campers get the same front-row seat as chalet guests.

  4. Sesriem

    Inside the Sesriem gate, the inner gate opens an hour before sunrise — Sossus Dune Lodge, Dead Valley Lodge and the two campsites are the only places that head start can be bought.

  5. Booking

    Book early, and let us fight the system for you. Peak-season Okaukuejo and Sesriem fill months out. We check live availability, suggest honest alternatives when a camp is full, and charge no fee for any of it.

Are NWR camps any good?

They're honest and functional rather than fancy — and in exactly the right places. Judge each one with the video on its card above: we filmed them so you can see precisely what you're booking before you commit.

Is camping at NWR resorts worth it?

Very often, yes. Campers at Okaukuejo, Halali and Namutoni get the same floodlit waterholes as chalet guests for a tenth of the price, and Sesriem's campsites carry the same early inner-gate access as the lodges.

How far ahead should I book?

For dry-season Etosha and any Sesriem property: months, not weeks. For the quieter camps — the Skeleton Coast outposts, Khorixas, Gross Barmen — shorter notice usually works. Send us your dates and we'll tell you honestly where you stand.

Do you charge a fee for booking NWR?

No. Like everything we book, you pay the resort's own rate — our service costs you nothing on top, and you pay nothing until the booking is confirmed.
