The stay

A game-park lodge on the capital’s doorstep

Daan Viljoen Lodge lies inside Daan Viljoen Game Park in the Khomas Hochland, about 20 km west of Windhoek on the C28. It is run by Sun Karros in partnership with Namibia Wildlife Resorts, who have invested more than N$60 million in renovating the lodge and campsites.

The chalets are spread around the Daan Viljoen dam, a permanent source of water that draws game and birds. Each is designed in a modern take on a traditional African kraal, with a private patio looking out over the park.

With no large predators in the park, you are free to explore on foot along two marked trails, among mountain zebra, giraffe, kudu and other highland antelope. Some 200 bird species have been recorded, making it a favourite with birders.

Double / Twin Chalets

Seventeen of the lodge’s nineteen kraal-inspired chalets sleep two, with twin beds that can be made up as a double on request.

Each is spacious, with an en-suite bathroom with a separate toilet and shower, air-conditioning, a ceiling fan, satellite TV and Wi-Fi.

Outside is a patio with views over the park and your own braai area. Breakfast is included.

Deluxe / Family Chalets

Two larger chalets for families of two adults and two children.

The main room has a double bed and a sleeper couch for the children, with the same comforts as the other chalets: en-suite bathroom, air-conditioning, satellite TV and a patio with a braai.

Parking is a short walk from the chalet and isn’t shaded. With only two, book these early.

Camping

The lodge also runs the park’s campsites beside the Augeigas River.

Seven luxury self-catering sites each have a private toilet and shower, a kitchenette with warm water and 220v power, and a built-in braai on a veranda. Twelve standard sites share communal ablutions.

What to do

Why stay at Daan Viljoen Lodge?

It gives you a real bush night without the long drive. If your trip starts in Windhoek, you can be on your patio in a game park within half an hour of collecting your car, and walk among the wildlife the next morning before heading on.

The lodge is also a popular venue for conferences and weddings, from traditional to bush ceremonies, with the park’s sunsets as the backdrop.
