The town of Omaruru is located just over 200 km north of Windhoek, the capital of Namibia. Most of the time, the Omaruru River is a dry riverbed, but it becomes spectacular when fed by rainstorms during the wet season.
Constructed in 1907 as a casino for local mineworkers, the building housing Kashana Guesthouse is situated on the banks of the river.
A hundred years later, the building was carefully restored to its former German colonial-style glory and was most likely named after the Owambo word for the surrounding savannah-bush.
In addition to the guesthouse, the historical building also houses an à la carte restaurant and a bar, frequented by both local residents and travellers. From Omaruru, tourists travel in all directions to enjoy the spectacular attractions of this beautiful country.
