A long way from anywhere and either on route to Luderitz or Cape Town, the Fish River Canyon Canyon and Kalahari Desert Area is a vast area dominated by sheep and cattle farms and an increasing amount of conservation game ranches. The Fish River Canyon runs through Africa's second largest canyon the Fish River Canyon Canyon which is open for hiking in the winter months. There is a good variety of accommodation around the canyon including camping, hotels, lodges and guesthouses.
The Fish River Canyon Canyon has become a popular hiking destination. However, hikes require good physical health and can only be undertaken during the cooler winter months (between May and September). A permit from must be obtained. The hike is 86 km in length and takes about 5 days.
The main attraction at the resort is the spa complex. The extreme heat heat of the springs date back to 1850 when they were discovered by a Nama herder
