Düsternbrook is a guest farm in Namibia, situated near Windhoek. We offer 6 lodge rooms, 2 furnished safari tents, and a small campsite. Our guest farm is located on a mountain with a breath taking view overlooking a dry wide riverbed. The historical old farm house is built out of natural stone, in colonial style. Since 2010 we also have a chalet at the dam (where the hippos live), where you can stay really close to nature. Please note Our safari lodge is centrally situated in Namibia and an ideal venue not only for your first and last nights in Namibia but also to rest for a few days between the northern and southern parts of your Namibian tour. Guest Farm Duesternbrook is not big. For the individual traveller (no busses) we offer, in carefully renovated buildings, seperate and individually furnished guest rooms. All guest rooms have a comfortable double bed and ensuite bathroom with solar heated showers. Our safari hotel near Windhoek offers a variety of lodging options which is ideal to get your rest before or after your flight (close to windhoek) or just for a stopover during your trip through Namibia. We target both the upmarket individual tourist as well as the ecotourist market. Our 'best view rooms' are called Felsenhaus and are situated on peaceful spot overlooking a very scenic riverbed. Stylefully decorated are the Colonial house rooms with a very charming veranda. The rooms are also differently furnished. For the traveller who wants to be closer to nature we can offer two luxury
safari tents close to the riverbed. These safari tents combine the better
nature experience with the comfort of a solid bathroom and provide you
plenty of privacy. Our food is always a freshly prepared European cuisine made with local products. The meals often include local game or farm-assured Namibian beef dishes. Homemade: We produce our own sausages and smoked meat of several game meat and every day there is fresh homemade bread and jams. In our Winter (May to July), dinner is served in the dining room of the main house with antique furniture and a fireplace. In Summer dinner is served on the open veranda with a beautiful view over the riverbed or in our thatched 'lapa' (lapa is the local word for eating place). We offer a small selection of good South African white and red wines and Namibian beer, which is brewed in the German tradition ("Reinheitsgebot"). We also offer various soft drinks, fruit juices and water. Before dinner we recommend our Kir Düsternbrook. You will enjoy the individual care and hospitality at Düsternbrook. The family atmosphere will make you feel at home and like part of this wildlife oasis in Namibia. Your host, Johann Vaatz, and his team are looking forward to your visit and to welcome you to Düsternbrook Guest Farm! Cats Unlimited Safari Game Drive Scenic Mountain Drive Safari tours Game drives While staying at our guest lodge you can use our large pool, visit our information center or go for a hike on our marked trails. Professional Photography On Düsternbrook lodge you, as photographer, can choose the time you want to go and we will assist you about what is normally done. Mostly the people like to go in the morning about 20 minutes after sunrise or in the evening before sunset, but most prefer in the morning as they say the light is sharper. You sit on open 4 x 4 Safari Jeep about 1.8 meters from the ground and we drive you into the big enclosures of the cats. There is no fence between you and the animal, which makes sure there is nothing letting you from taking brilliant pictures. Normally we put meat in a tree to get the leopard out of its shelter, but there's not garantee for this. The distance between you and the animals is about 10 to 25 meters (30-75 ft). The guide can try to manipulate the leopard and cheetah, but do not expect to much. Our leopards and cheetahs are wild animals and safety is always first priority. The unique chance to photograph the leopard and cheetah in their natural habitat Currently (jul 2012) we have 2 leopards and 5 cheetahs in our enclosure and there are several leopards living on our farmland, which are seen sometimes. In our lodging price the standard "cats unlimited" tour is included. We advise you to go on this tour first to get an idea about the setting and be able to prepare yourself well. Of course it is also possible to photograph other wildlife and sceneries on our farmland. Our farmland is 12.000 ha big and we have a variety of plants and animals.
