The Spitzkoppe - the name meaning "pointed dome" - is one of the iconic attractions of Namibia and no visit to this beautiful country should exclude a trip to this breathtaking site.

Rising dramatically out of the plains of the Namib Desert, the tallest of the three main peaks, towers above the rest of the range at 1 784 m above sea level.

When travelling between Windhoek and Swakopmund, the mountains will be visible towards the north, but viewing them from the main road is just not enough.

To truly experience the magic of this volcanic upheaval, caused by geological activity 130 million years ago, you need to go closer and take photos at sunset and do a hike during sunrise.

Campsites

The campsites are widely scattered around the Spitzkoppe and offer privacy and seclusion, but not much facilities. Think of it as "wild camping" at a campsite.

Some of the sites have pit toilets and some have fireplaces, but bringing your own gear and being completely self-reliant regarding the facilities, will provide the most soul-fulfilling experience - without the frustration of expectations not being met.

When checking in, you'll receive a map to navigate you to your campsite.
