Long established as one the city’s best-known gathering places, the stylish Polana Bar is the only place to see and be seen. Leisurely in atmosphere and relaxed in ambience, it serves an exceptional range of wines, finest malts and classic cocktails throughout the day.

On the outside terrace, overlooking the pool, tea, pastries and gateaux are served, while in the evening this is the spot to enjoy a relaxing cigar. There is also live music, Monday to Thursday. The bar is open for tea and coffee: 8am to 10.30am.

Things To Do And See In Maputo

- City Tour: Get a glimpse of the Iron House that was intended as a residence for the governor in 1892 and see The Railway Station ranked amongst the most beautiful in the world, it dates from 1910.
- The Natural History Museum
- The Central Market: The market offers handicrafts and all manner of fresh produce.
- The Fort and Coin Museum: The museum dominates the square that also hosts the city's saturday 'Flea market'
- The City Hall and Cathedral
- Costa Do Sol: Popular for its seafood and sates back 1938.
- The Historic Naval Club
- The National Art Museum and the Associação Núcleo de Arte: It is the oldest collective of artists in Mozambique and hosts regular exhibitions. The Núcleo became well known for their work in transforming the weapons of war into object of art, which played a major role in reconciliation after the Mozambican Civil War.
- The Cultural Tour: It offers an encapsulated version of a ‘day in the life of Maputo’, and includes meetings with local sculptors, families, school children and community workers.
- The Sunset Cruise: A cruise around the bay and harbour with sundowner cocktails served as the sun sets.
- The Maputo by Night safari: A showcase of Maputo nightlife, which begins with a seafood dinner in a local restaurant, followed by a tour of the famous jazz cafes of the city. The safari then features some of Maputo’s most famous night clubs – and ends at dawn.
- Night clubs and bars: Among the best-known in the city are: ‘The Lounge’ at Coconuts Disco, ‘Face to Face’, ‘Leblon’, ‘Rua D’Arte’, ‘Havana Bar’ and ‘Bar & Bar’.
- Music: Regular music jam sessions take place at ‘Gil Vicente Café’, ‘Mafalala Libre’, ‘Matola Jazz Bar’ and ‘Africa Bar’. The French Cultural Centre also functions as a leading venue for visiting artists.
- Crafts: Visit the Saturday Craft Market, which is held in the square by the harbour. Alternatively visit Artedif Gallery (owned and managed by the association of the physically challenged, this gallery features a wide range of work produced by their members whilst proceeds go towards their support).
- Restaurants: Alternative dining experiences to be enjoyed include the long-established ‘Restaurante Costa do Sol’, as well as the Zambi Docks and Waterfront restaurants. Other popular choices include: ‘Brazilian Rodízio Real’, ‘Mundo’s Pub’ and the ‘Dolce Vita Café’.
- Tropical island visits: The beautiful rural islands of Inhaca and Portuguese lie 30km offshore from the hotel and are accessible by plane (10 minutes) or boat (1-2 hours). Recreational facilities include The Village, Inhaca Resort, Lucas’ Seafood Restaurant, a marine biology station, a water sports centre, snorkeling, diving, bird-watching, walking, hiking and fishing.
