The stay

Tamboti is Onguma’s flagship campsite and one of the best-positioned in the whole Etosha area. Twenty-five sites among established trees, generously spaced, four minutes from the Von Lindequist Gate.

Each site has its own private ablution with a spacious shower room and a separate toilet, a covered wash-up area, and ample power points for a camping fridge and everybody’s devices. Sites are serviced daily.

The communal area makes it self-contained: a restaurant looking onto a waterhole, a swimming pool, a supply store for essentials and Wi-Fi. The campsite is fenced, which makes it the reserve’s practical choice for families camping.

Luxury Campsite

Twenty-five sites spread among established trees, each with room to unpack and set up properly rather than squeezing in.
The reason these are called luxury campsites is the bathroom: every site has its own private ablution with a spacious shower room and a separate toilet — no shared block, and no queue at seven in the morning.
There is a covered wash-up area, and ample power points — enough for a camping fridge, camera batteries and everyone’s phones at once, which is rarer than it should be.
Sites are serviced daily and shaded naturally by the trees.

Travelling with friends in convoy? A number of the sites sit closer together — say so when you enquire and we will ask for those. Bring your own tent and camping gear.

What to do

Why camp at Tamboti?

Four minutes from the Von Lindequist Gate. That is the shortest run to an Etosha gate of anywhere we list, camping or otherwise, and in a park where the gates open at sunrise and the waterholes are busiest at dawn, it is worth real money.

Then the bathrooms. Every one of the twenty-five sites has its own private ablution with a proper shower room and a separate toilet. After a week of shared blocks on a Namibian self-drive, that is the thing people actually remember.

It is also genuinely self-contained: a restaurant overlooking a waterhole, a swimming pool, a supply store for essentials and Wi-Fi in the restaurant. You can camp without cooking, or cook every night and still get a cold drink and a swim.

The camp is fenced, which sets it apart from most of the Onguma properties and makes it the reserve’s sensible choice for families who are camping.

Before you book

Bring your own tent and camping gear — sites are serviced, not set up
The campsite is fenced; adult supervision is still required at all times
Activities are charged separately and must be booked in advance — do not leave the game drives until you arrive
Park entry fees for Etosha are payable separately at the gate
The supply store carries essentials only — do a proper shop in Tsumeb or Ondangwa first
Wi-Fi is in the restaurant area, not at the sites
Ask about the grouped sites if you are travelling in convoy
