The stay

Your own bathroom at the pitch

Camping near Etosha usually means a shared ablution block. Each of the four individual sites here has its own private ablution with a shower, basin and toilet — which at camping rates is worth a great deal after a dusty day in the park.

Every site has an electrical connection point, running water, lights and braai facilities, set among the mopane trees. Two much larger group sites take 25 to 30 tents between them, with shared ablutions separated for men and women.

Campers use the main building alongside: the restaurant with its well-regarded buffet, the African-hut bar with its fire pit and big screen, three swimming pools and the utility and curio shop.

What to do

Why stay at Etosha Village?

Under four kilometres from the Andersson Gate, which makes it one of the closest beds to Etosha outside the park. Gates open at sunrise and close at sunset and the waterholes are busiest at both ends of the day, so a short run to the gate is worth real money. If a night at a floodlit waterhole inside the park is the point of your trip, Okaukuejo is the answer and we will say so.

The food is the other reason people come back. The buffet here has a reputation well beyond what the rates suggest, and guest reviews mention it more often than the game viewing. There are three restaurant seating areas and a bar built as an African-style hut, with a fire pit and a big screen.

It sits on its own private reserve directly adjacent to the park, with lookout decks and hides where smaller game can be spotted on guided walks, and a waterhole in front of the units that kudu wander up to.

There is a large swimming pool plus two more for children, a 24-hour coffee station at reception, and a shop. Fuel and basic tyre repair are at Etosha Trading Post a few kilometres down the road.
