The Baynesfield Estate Lodge is set overlooking a beautiful dam and the views are spectacular. The lodge is a wonderful weekend or holiday destination. The Garden Cottage is set amongst the beautiful established heritage garden and offers peace and quiet for guests wanting a tranquil weekend away. |

Camping is also offered at the Big Dam. Our guests can enjoy the use of all the amenities including the dam for fishing, the farm for walking trails or mountain biking and the garden for strolling. The Garden Cottage is set in the beautiful Heritage Garden.
The tastefully appointed self-catering cottage has two bedrooms, a lounge, kitchen and bathroom. Come and spend a relaxing weekend in the park-like garden surrounded by ancient trees and birdsong. The cottage is also an ideal base from which to explore the surrounding area.
The more active can enjoy mountain biking and walking on the 9000 hectare farm. The Cottage is only 20 minutes from Pietermaritzburg.
Baynesfield Estate Dam
This dam is used by guests of the Lodge and Garden Cottage and by fishing
and camping groups by prior arrangement only. Please contact us if you
would like to arrange a fishing group.
Rules and Regulations:
· Only sneeker motors to be used.
· Anyone failing to comply will be fined.
· All fishing is based on the catch and release
method.
Agriculture
Baynesfield Estate has a large agricultural concern operated by the company,
Joseph Baynes Estate (Pty) Ltd. The company employs over one hundred permanent
employees and farms a large diversified operation of about 3,600 hectare.
The Estate also employs a large number of seasonal workers during peak
production harvest times.
The company currently farms Avocados, Pigs, Beef Cattle, Cane and Grains (Maize and Soya Bean). A large portion of the Estate is leased to NCT Farming for timber by the Timber Trust. In addition to farming, the company also has strategic shareholdings in a number of other entities involved in agriculture.
Heritage Centre
The Heritage Centre consists of the Baynesfield Estate Museums, the Heritage Garden, the Natal Vintage Tractor and Machinery Club and the Woodcrafters. The Baynesfield Estate Heritage Centre holds four Country Fairs every year as part of a fundraising and marketing effort.
We welcome visitors and would recommend a tour of the Museums. The garden is also a lovely venue for picnics, weddings and other functions.
