The Retreat is an old Victorian farmhouse in the lovely Groenfontein Valley conservancy, bordering on the 129.000ha Swartberg Nature Reserve, recently proclaimed a world heritage site, and situated 20kms northeast of Calitzdorp on a scenic, winding gravel road, 59kms northwest of Oudtshoorn, and 38kms southwest of the Cango caves, both half gravel, just off the magical Route 62. There are 2 suites and 2 garden rooms away from the house with breathtaking views of the mountains from their private terraces, and 4 comfortable en-suite bedrooms in the main house, with French doors opening onto a patio.
This lovely home has 2 new luxury suites and 2 luxury rooms in two garden
annexes with spectacular views of the mountains, king-size beds which
can be made up as twins, sitting-areas by a fireplace, 3 with Victorian
bath and shower, the smaller with only shower, the 2 suites have an extra
room with 2 single beds.
We have 1 cosy standard room in a converted milking-shed, with king-size
bed, fireplace and shower and 3 comfortable standard en-suite bedrooms
with French doors leading onto a patio in the main house, where the lounge
and dining room - each with a fireplace - lead onto the verandah overlooking
the sweeping gardens and majestic Swartberg.

How To Get To The Retreat at Groenfontein
After Barrydale and Ladismith on the R62, turn left in Calitzdorp at
the Groenfontein sign. Carry on past the Calitzdorp Dam and after 19km
turn left towards the Retreat at Groenfontein.
Travel for 1,5km. Coming from Oudtshoorn on the R62 turn right after 30kms
at the Kruisrivier turnoff, and again right after 6 kms towards Cango
Caves.
After 10,7km pass the turnoff to Cango Caves and carry on another 10,6km
to Groenfontein Retreat turnoff. Turn right and travel another 1,5km before
reaching the Retreat.
