The Complete Boutique Experience

Hermitage Lodge is nestled on 25 acres in Pokolbin, in the heart of the Hunter Valley vineyards. Many of the area's popular wineries, cellar doors and tourist attractions are within walking distance or a short drive. Two championship golf courses, 'The Vintage' and 'Cypress Lakes', are just minutes away, while four other courses are within a twenty minute drive.

The Lodge's 20 Studios and Suites offer 4 and a half star boutique Hunter Valley accommodation and personal, attentive service rarely found today. All rooms have a deck or veranda offering views over the property's own Shiraz vineyard and small lake. A salt water pool, guest lounge and guest laundry are an impressive range of facilities for such a boutique property.

Hermitage Lodge’s on-site award-winning Hunter Valley restaurant ‘Il Cacciatore’ specialises in Northern Italian inspired cuisine, and is open for dinner nightly from 6pm. 'Il Cacciatore' is fully licensed and is available for group lunch bookings, private functions and special events with prior arrangement. The restaurant also conducts cooking classes; ideal for a group of friends or for off-site conference groups. Hermitage Lodge is the ideal retreat for couples or a great venue for corporate meetings, small conferences or executive groups.

Lodge Room

The ‘Lodge’ rooms, despite being our entry level accommodation, offer a large spacious open plan room with king beds that can be split into two king singles, as well as a double sofa bed. The rooms are within close proximity to both Reception and the restaurant and are very popular with couples with children and elderly couples who prefer not to have to walk too far to get to the restaurant. These rooms have a walk in shower (no tub), dining table and chairs, LCD televisions and a covered verandah with views to the vineyard.

Deluxe Room with Spa Bath

These room features beautiful wooden cathedral ceilings, decks front and rear, with rear deck looking across the lawn to the vineyard. Three of these room are ‘open plan’ style offering a king bed that can be split, while two of them offer a separate bedroom/living area with a queen bed. These rooms also feature a sofa, dining room table and chairs, small corner spa bath tub and LCD television.

Deluxe Spa Suite with Loft

This ‘one of a kind’ room features a loft king bedroom. The downstairs living area features two comfortable arm chairs, LCD television, bathroom with a large corner spa tub and separate shower, as well as decks both front and rear, with the rear deck looking across the lawn to the vineyard. The perfect room for young romantics on a smaller budget. This room sleeps a maximum of two.

Premier Studio and Vineyard Studio

These popular ‘open plan’ style rooms are perfect if you don’t need all that space. They feature either a King bed that can be split into two king singles-Vineyard Studios or just the one king bed-Premier Studios. These rooms are filled with natural light have decks almost on top of the vineyard. They feature two comfortable arm chairs, LCD television, dining table and chairs and a beautiful bathroom with walk in shower with no tub. The Studios sleep a maximum of two guests.

Vineyard Suite

This spacious Suite is equipped with everything one needs to enjoy a true Hunter Valley experience including the large deck overlooking the Vineyards and a bathroom with deep soaking tub for ultimate relaxation. The Vineyard Suite also features a sofa and sofa bed, gas fireplace, as well as a dining table and chairs. This room sleeps a maximum of four guests. Can be combined with a Vineyard Studio to create a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom suite perfect for two couples travelling together who seek the privacy of their own space.

Vineyard Spa Suite

For those romantics seeking a full size oval spa tub, look no further! The Vineyard Spa Suite features a king bed, large oval spa tub, gas fireplace, deck overlooking the vineyard and a separate living area with sofa and sofa bed. This room is one of the most popular rooms on the property and is the only room with its own covered parking. This room sleeps a maximum of four guests.

Premier Suite

Romantics will love this ‘top of the line’ apartment size, two storey suite. The ground floor boasts a fully equipped kitchen, gas fireplace, large LCD television, full bathroom, sofa and sofa bed, dining table and chairs, beautiful hardwood floors and a deck almost within reach of the vines. Upstairs is a king bedroom with walk through wardrobe, large luxurious bathroom with no tub, a glassed in deck with jetted bathtub and full vineyard view. Relax in the outdoor spa bath with a glass of bubbles and gaze at the incredible night sky. This room sleeps a maximum of four guests.

Acessible Accommodation

One of the Vineyard Suites has its own under-cover parking with easy access, ie. no steps or ramps. The bedroom boasts a king bed, which may be split into king singles. The deck overlooks the vineyard and is accessible from both the living room and the bedroom. The living room with its two large sofas (one is a large sofa bed) has a gas fireplace and LCD TV. The screened sliding windows overlooking the vineyard were built lower to allow panoramic views from the sofas or a wheelchair.

The spacious bathroom has a large oval spa tub with extra wide edges and grab rails making it easy to get in to and out of. The bathroom’s generously sized walk-in/wheel-in shower offers two convenient showerheads: one is hand-held on a sliding bar over a tiled bench seat, with a second head at a fixed height.

Il Cacciatore Italian Restaurant

Hermitage Lodge’s award-winning restaurant ‘Il Cacciatore’ specialises in Northern Italian inspired cuisine. Il Cacciatore has long been a favourite with visitors and locals alike. The ambience is relaxed and casual and the service is professional, friendly and attentive. Il Cacciatore is fully licensed, with full bar service, and a wine list showcasing some of the Hunter’s best wines.

Il Cacciatore also has a second dining area and a spacious adjoining deck, which overlooks the landscaped reed-lined lake. Perfect for al fresco dining, it is also available for private dinners or cocktail parties.
Adjacent to the restaurant is the cosy guest lounge featuring plush sofas and an open fire during winter where diners can enjoy a pre-dinner drink or after dinner coffee and port.
Il Cacciatore is open for dinner nightly from 6 p.m. Il Cacciatore is not open for lunch however is available for private functions during the day

The Vineyard View Room is a fully equipped meeting room filled with natural light. A spacious timber deck adjoins the Vineyard View Room and overlooks a landscaped reed-lined lake, providing delegates with a wonderful setting for morning and afternoon tea, an alfresco lunch or pre-dinner drinks. A cosy guest lounge with plush sofas and a fire place during the cooler months is the perfect place to enjoy an after dinner coffee and port.

Shop

Our Gift Shop offers a selection of ‘house made’ condiments and chutneys including ‘Caramelised Balsamic Figs’, ‘Eggplant and Tomato Chutney’, ‘Roasted Marinated Olives’ and ‘Quince and Fig Paste’. The selection changes due to seasonality and availability of ingredients, so not all products are always available.

We also offer a good range of the ‘Pukara Estate’ olive oils from the Upper Hunter Valley, including the very popular ‘Caramelised Balsamic Vinegar’. The shop also features our estate grown Shiraz, as well as our own label Chardonnay and Verdelho that are available for purchase through our Cellar Door licence between 9am and 5pm daily.

Directions to Hermitage Lodge

Plane

Cessnock Airport is the nearest gateway in the region that offers charter and helicopter flights only. Visitors from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane can take a flight going to Newcastle Airport for approximately an hour. Newcastle Airport which serves domestic flights is the second convenient gateway to reach Cessnock for an hour drive.

Trains and Buses

Take a train from Sydney Central going either to the stations in Maitland, Morisette or Newcastle. These three stations has connecting coaches going to Hunter Valley, Cessnock. Travel duration depends on the station prefered by passengers. It is advisable to check train timetables to plan ahead your journey.

Car

There are various routes from Sydney that could take you to Cessnock and the Hunter Valley Region. Drive north to Sydney Harbour Bridge and continue to the National Highway. Take the M1-Pacific Motorway going towards Newcastle and take the exit Freemans Drive- B 82 and continue to McDonalds Rd in Pokolbin. Visitors who are opt for wine tasting must have a reliable driver since the country has strict drinking laws that are policed throughout the region.
