Bowen is located on the north-east coast of Australia. It has a  halfway between Townsville and Mackay, and 1,130 kilometres by road from Brisbane. Bowen is within 140 km of the giant Burdekin dam so a plentiful supply of fresh water will never be a problem no matter how many tourists discover Bowen's pristine shores and spacious hinterland, or how many high tech industries decide to locate themselves in Bowen's new industrial park, or how many farmers may want to grow small crops under Bowen's abundant sunshine.

By Plane
Flight access is via the major airports of Whitsunday Coast (Proserpine) and Hamilton Island, or Mackay and Townsville Airports which are a 2 hour drive from Bowen. Queensland Rail’s “Spirit of Queensland” provides regular connections in and out of Bowen.  Coach services connect daily, and provide north and southbound services.
