Lochinver hotels Welcome to Tigh-na-mara, a small modernized self-catering cottage situated overlooking the beautiful fishing village of Lochinver in the North West Highlands of Scotland one of the last wildernesses of Great Britain.

Your accommodation is set in a beautifully secluded spot within walking distance of the village. Situated by itself within an acre of ground on a south facing hillside with it’s own garden it commands one of the finest views in the area, looking across the bay to the village, the harbour and the surrounding mountains that include the iconic mountain Suilven.

The cottage has a private road of some 100 yards allowing you to take your car to the door and makes an ideal base from which to explore the beauties of the surrounding area and beyond.

Tigh Na Mara Accommodation

Tigh-na-Mara has accommodation for two people and consists of a sun-room, a kitchen and bathroom, and one large split-level room which was the original cottage. Half of this area comprises the bedroom on the upper level which has two single beds which can be joined together and is divided off from the lower level, (with it’s lounge and dining facilities), by heavyweight curtains making it lovely and cosy.

The lounge has two comfortable wing back chairs, TV and DVD player, and a small library that includes local literature and guides to the area, with a large map on the wall to help you plan the next days excursions. The house is quick and easy to heat in cold weather and in the summer months the thick traditional stone walls keep the cottage lovely and cool.

Have a seat in the adjoining sunroom and you can sit back and enjoy the stunning views.

In the kitchen you will find all the equipment you need to cook up some culinary delights and make that fresh pot of coffee in the morning. You will also find a washing machine and a large airing cupboard. Out in the garden there is Teak garden furniture to sit out and enjoy the sun with drinks and food with the same stunning views.

Tigh-na-Mara is beautifully tucked away into the hillside giving you complete privacy and spectacular views over the village, out the bay, over the harbour and the mountains on the horizon. The perfect spot to relax and watch fishing boats coming back to port after a day at sea.

Lochinver
Lochinver itself is a delightful fishing village on the rugged coastline of North West Sutherland, a spectacular two hour drive from the Highland capital of Inverness, passing through the small port of Ullapool.

Lochinver has a number of restaurants to choose from ranging from wholesome pub grub to award winning menus. There are two self service stores, butcher/green grocer, newsagent, Post Office, a branch of The Royal Bank of Scotland and a medical centre with two resident Doctors.

There is a state of the art Visitor Centre, gift shops and hardware store that has almost everything from a needle to an anchor including clothing and fishing tackle, and those of you who like to stay active, head on over to the harbour to the local leisure centre, where you will also find internet access. All this and more all within walking distance from Tigh-na-mara.

Wildlife is all around you both inland along the coast and out at sea including Red deer, Roe deer, Golden Eagles, Otters, Seals, Whales, Dolphins, Black and Red Throated divers, Great Northern divers and more....

Come at the right time of year and you can witness a traditional Highland Games or see one of the many plays and performances from performers from around the world put on during the summer at the local village hall including of course traditional Scottish Ceilidh’s.

If you are after peace and quiet, pure clean air, beautiful starry skies and a wide range of activities and touring routes you would be hard pushed to find anywhere better!

Assynt district, which centres around Lochinver is a vast area of contrasts: from stunning mountains to white sandy beaches, from ancient castles and caves to spectacular waterfalls, and from a multitude of hill lochs to rugged coastlines and the crystal clear sea.

This makes the area ideal for climbers, hillwalkers wildlife and water sport enthusiasts. It is a brown trout anglers paradise and Tigh-na-Mara owners, keen anglers themselves, are only to pleased to offer local advice.
