We are the largest independently owned hotel in the Inverclyde area.
All premier rooms have wireless and hard wired internet connection.
Facilities in all bedrooms include central heating, all are en-suite, direct dial telephone, remote control television, hospitality tray and hairdryer. We can cater for single travellers on business or leisure.
The Premier Bedrooms are tastefully decorated, spacious and have a separate dedicated wireless broadband internet connection.
The Executive Bedrooms are modern, tailored for the business client with internet connections (telephone dial up). We have non-smoking and smoking rooms.
Our Honeymoon Suite is the perfect place to stay after your wedding. The Cuthbert Suite has a full range of facilities with separate living room and bedroom.

Our newly refurbished Ardgowan Suite can cater for up to 150 guests and when catering for 75 guests or more you will receive our Honeymoon Suite complimentary.

We have five Meeting Rooms, allowing us to cater for Conferences, Meetings
and Events of various sizes, from 5 to larger groups of 150. Providing
all additional services including food, tea and coffee, projectors and
internet connections. All Meeting Rooms can be tailored for business or
personal use.
We will also provide accommodation, directions to hotel, menus, specification sheets of our rooms, layout sizes etc.
History and Architecture
The Tontine Hotel was built around 1805 when Greenock was expanding rapidly
to the west of Nelson Street. Since being ‘settled’ around
1680 Greenock had grown rapidly but uncontrollably so the town planners
decided that the planning control should be much stricter.
The town council decided that Greenock should grow to the west but in a planned manner in pleasant 'tree lined avenues'. The Tontine was one of the buildings in this area (albeit at a later date). Argowan Square had many architectural features typical of the time: buildings which although were originally.
Local Attractions
We are centrally located in Greenock, a five minute walk to the Esplanade
and the town centre with all the local amenities. With ample parking on
site the hotel overlooks the picturesque Ardgowan Square, which is the
home of Ardgowan Tennis club and Ardgowan Bowling Club (lawn bowls).
DIRECTIONS
From Glasgow East:
· Take the M8/A8 to Greenock and continue to travel through Greenock
past the bull ring car park, Tesco and Shield Garage.
· Take a left at the traffic lights at Patrick Street (on your
right will see Greenock Ocean Terminal often with cruise liners berthed).
· Drive up Patrick Street to the traffic lights and turn right
onto Ardgowan square.
· The Tontine is situated on the right around 100metres.
From Gourock/West (the coast road):
· Drive through Gourock and follow the A8 following signs to Glasgow.
· Pass under the railway bridge at Greenock Ocean Terminal.
· Turn right up Robertson Street and drive up to the next junction.
· The Tontine is up the hill on your left.
From West (via Greenock) - the high road:
· Enter Greenock by going past IBM and follow the A8 through Greenock
following signs for Glasgow.
· Go down Nelson Street and turn left on to Union Street.
· Go through the traffic lights at Patrick Street.
· The Tontine Hotel is on the right just before the next junction
of Robertson Street.
