The stay

Camping with the city on your doorstep

Urban Camp sits on Schanzen Road in Klein Windhoek, just outside the city centre. Behind the gate it feels far from town: big shady trees, lawns and hammocks, and a pool to cool off in after a long drive.

It is a favourite with self-drivers and overlanders. Pitch your rooftop tent on one of the ten shaded sites, or book one of the furnished glamping tents if you’re travelling light. In the evening there is the beer garden, a braai at your site, or a short walk to Joe’s Beerhouse or a good Portuguese restaurant.

Everything you need for the road is close by. A small shopping centre around the corner has a supermarket, pharmacy, bank, post office, butchery, café and a 24-hour fuel station with a car wash — and there is an ATM on site.

It comes with linen and towels, a fan, a mosquito net, a fridge, a kettle, a power point and a lockable cupboard.

What to do

Why stay at Urban Camp?

It is one of the few places where you can camp properly in Windhoek itself. That makes it ideal for the first or last night of a self-drive with a rooftop tent: collect your vehicle, stock up at the shops around the corner, and get an early start the next morning.

It is also handy for sightseeing. The city centre, with the Christuskirche, the National Museum of Namibia and the Namibia Craft Centre, is only a short drive away.
