Windhoek · Klein Windhoek, the city’s oldest suburb

The Elegant Guesthouse

Windhoek, Namibia

A chic, owner-designed boutique guesthouse on a quiet corner of Klein Windhoek. Seventeen stylish en-suite rooms around a water-wise garden with a pool, a wooden deck and a fire pit — a few minutes from the city centre and an easy start or finish to a trip through Namibia.

The stay

Namibian chic in a quiet Windhoek street

The Elegant Guesthouse stands on the corner of Ziegler and Von Eckenbrecher streets in Klein Windhoek, the leafy residential suburb that is the oldest part of the city. It is the Windhoek address of The Elegant Collection, the group behind the Elegant Desert Lodge and Desert Camp.

The look is deliberately different from most Namibian guesthouses: clean, modern lines softened with local materials and colour. Rooms open off a peaceful central courtyard, and the garden is planted to be drought-resistant, with plenty of shady corners to sit in.

Mornings start in the open-plan kitchen, where the team lays out a buffet breakfast with hot dishes and bread baked fresh on site. Through the day there is free tea and coffee, an honesty bar, the pool and its wooden deck, and in the evening a fire in the African fire pit.

Double & Twin Rooms

Most of the seventeen rooms are doubles or twins for two, opening off the central garden courtyard.

They are light and uncluttered, with clean, angular lines and a Namibian touch, plus an en-suite bathroom, air-conditioning, satellite TV, Wi-Fi and a room safe.

A tea and coffee station, a desk and a wardrobe make them as comfortable for a working trip as for the first night of a holiday.

Inter-Leading Family Rooms

Two of the rooms are set up as inter-leading family units, sleeping four.

Each side has its own en-suite bathroom, so parents and children — or two couples travelling together — get privacy while staying connected.

Everything else matches the double and twin rooms: air-conditioning, satellite TV, Wi-Fi and a safe. Book early, as there are only two.

What to do

Why stay at The Elegant Guesthouse?

It suits travellers who want somewhere calm and well looked after rather than a big city hotel. Klein Windhoek is quiet at night, yet the Christuskirche and the Alte Feste are only about 3 km away and good restaurants are close by. The road east to Hosea Kutako International starts just around the corner, which makes it an easy first or last night.

The staff are happy to talk through your route over a coffee, and can book city tours, township visits, gallery trips and safari outings for you. If you don’t feel like going out to eat, they will order in a meal from one of the local restaurants.

For other places to stay in and around the capital, see our Windhoek accommodation page.
