Gondwana Kalahari Park · one suite, two guests

Reverie Kalahari Pod

Mariental Area, Kalahari, Namibia

A single, secluded suite for two among the red dunes, 30 km northeast of Mariental. Your own plunge pool looking onto your own waterhole, a host and guide who is yours alone, and every meal and activity included.

The stay

A desert hideaway built for two

The Reverie is part of the Gondwana Collection's Secret Collection: one private pod, hidden in the dunes of the Gondwana Kalahari Park about 30 km northeast of Mariental. There are no other guests, no shared dining room and no schedule except the one you set with your host.

The design takes its cue from the traditions of the Khoi San, and the whole space — around 190 m² inside and out — is laid out for two people. There is deliberately no television; instead there is a telescope for the Kalahari night sky, binoculars for the waterhole, and a two-way radio to reach your host whenever you want them.

Everything is included. Meals are planned around what you like, the kitchen and bar are stocked, and drives, walks and sundowners happen when it suits you. It is a place for a honeymoon, an anniversary, or simply a couple of days of quiet at the start or end of a long trip.

Where you will sleep

One suite, inside and out

The Reverie is a single unit sleeping a maximum of two. Inside is the bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and lounge; outside are the terraces, the plunge pool and the view over your private waterhole. All meals and activities are included in the rate.

The Suite

A spacious bedroom with an en-suite bathroom, opening onto an open-plan lounge, dining area and fully equipped kitchen.

The kitchen and private bar come stocked, so there is no need to bring anything with you, and your host prepares meals around your tastes.

Air-conditioning heats as well as cools — useful in a Kalahari winter — and the suite has luxury toiletries, bathrobes and a hairdryer.

Terraces, Pool & Waterhole

Outside, the pod steps down onto terraced outdoor living space with a barbecue, and a private plunge pool that looks straight onto the pod's own waterhole.

Giraffe and oryx come in to drink, and with no one else around you can watch them from the water.

After dark, the telescope comes out — the Kalahari has some of the clearest, darkest skies in Namibia.

What to do

Why stay at Reverie Kalahari Pod?

Most Kalahari lodges are lovely, but you share them. The Reverie is the opposite: the only accommodation of its kind in the Gondwana Kalahari Park, with a guide, a waterhole and a stretch of red dunes that are effectively yours for the length of your stay.

Being all-inclusive, it also takes the planning away. Tell your host when you would like to eat, walk, drive or simply do nothing, and the rest is arranged around you — which, after a few long days on Namibian roads, is a rare kind of luxury.
