The stay

Camping, with none of the setting up

Self-drive travellers in Namibia usually face a choice: pay for a 4x4 with a rooftop tent and all the gear, or pay lodge rates every night. Camping 2Go sits between the two. The tent is already up, the beds are made and the kitchen is stocked with pots, plates and a gas cooker, so you can arrive in an ordinary car with a cool box of food and nothing more.

Each tent has four beds and its own en-suite bathroom with a hot shower, which is the part that separates this from a campsite. There is a fridge and power points at the kitchen, and the whole site sits in shade — not a small thing in this part of the country.

You are on the grounds of Namib Desert Lodge and share its facilities, so when you have had enough of your own cooking there is a restaurant and a bar, two swimming pools, a curio shop and Wi-Fi at the main building.

Safari Tent

A permanent safari tent, already pitched on a shaded site, with four beds made up and bedding and towels provided.
It has its own en-suite bathroom with a hot shower — you are not walking to a shared ablution block in the dark.
Outside there is a fully equipped kitchen with a gas cooker, a fridge, power points and all the pots, pans and utensils you need to cook for four.

Four beds makes this good value for a family or two couples travelling together, and it works out well below a lodge room for the same number of people. Bring your own food and drink; everything else is there.

What to do

Why stay at Namib Desert Camping 2Go?

Mostly, cost. Four beds in one tent with its own bathroom works out a long way below four people in lodge rooms, and you still get the pools, the restaurant and the activities. For a family or two couples driving the country together, it is one of the better-value nights on this route.

The other reason is practical. If you are not travelling in a kitted-out 4x4, this is the easiest way to do a night of desert camping in Namibia. Nothing to pitch, nothing to pack down, and a hot shower of your own at the end of it.

Sesriem is 60 km south, so Sossusvlei is a full day out, and the gate opens at sunrise like everywhere outside the park. Tell us if that dawn light on the dunes is the point of your trip and we will be straight with you about what the in-park options cost.

You are on the same property as Namib Desert Lodge and Namib Dune Star Camp, so a group can spread across all three and still eat together.
