Eensgevonden is a working wine farm in a stunningly beautiful spot!
360 degree views stretch across the great expanse of the Breede River Valley and the magnificent mountains that surround it.
The farmstead - a National Monument is - the oldest in the Valley, dating back to the 1720’s.

The farm has 400ha of mountain Nature Reserve with scenic hiking trails through virgin fynbos.
Queen Victoria Peak is the highest part of the mountain, at a height of 1307m.
The mountain and the lower farm land have an interesting selection of bird species. Ninety seven different birds have been spotted so far!

A five minute walk from the cottages is a gorgeous secluded mountain swimming pool - a wonderful way to cool off in the Summer.

In the Winter, the mountains are snow-capped - a beautiful sight as they ascend majestically out from the valley of vineyards.
The Breede River is in one of the largest wine producing areas in South Africa. Over 50 wine cellars within a 20 km radius all offer free tasting of their excellent wines.

Eensgevonden Vineyard Cottage

The Friendly hosts, Doug & Sally, will give you a warm welcome and happily show you around their farm and vineyards.
The cottages have ‘Cape’ style ‘white-washed’ walls with quarry tiles throughout. They are bright and airy, with big wooden double doors opening out onto large verandas and fantastic views. A great place for evening sundowners!

The cottages are fully equipped for self-catering - fridge, stove, microwave etc. and ‘Breakfast in a Basket’ can be delivered on request.
They are cool in summer and have cosy fireplaces in winter, when the surrounding mountains are snow-capped. Each cottage has its own private barbeque/braai area and is surrounded by an indigenous garden.

Hoopoe’ is their‘cutest’ cottage! With an open-plan kitchen / dining room / lounge with fireplace and two sets of wooden double doors opening out onto a large verandah. It has one bedroom with a queen size bed. The bathroom has a shower. This is where we put our honeymooners!

‘Sunbird’ is their sunniest cottage with the sun streaming in through the big double doors in the afternoon. It has two bedrooms - the front room has a queen size bed and magnificent views across the valley and the back room has two single beds, with views of the mountain. The bathroom has a shower and a bath. The kitchen/dining room/lounge is open plan with a fireplace.

‘Nightjar’ is their ‘family’ cottage and is much more spacious. It has a queen-size bed in the front room, which has its own entrance onto the verandah and two single beds in the back room - both with expansive views across the valley. The lounge/dining room is a large room with fireplace, which wooden double doors leading out onto the verandah.
The bathroom has a shower.

Eight minutes from the cottages - an easy walk - is the most beautiful, secluded, crystal-clear mountain rock pool. It is a wonderful way to cool off in the summer especially after a walk in the mountains.
This is a magical place where all you can do is relax and enjoy the untouched nature surrounding you. With 400ht of Private Nature Reserve, there is a lot of mountain and a lot of open space!
The hiking trails through the virgin fynbos vary in length, from a short walk, a half-day hike or an 8hr scramble to the top of Queen Victoria Peak!

With incredible views in all directions, the trails pass through very diverse scenery. Our farm lies between two bioms - the Western Cape Fynbos and the Succulent Karoo, which in itself adds to the abundance of biodiversity.
Bird watching is popular and so far 97 species have been ticked off on the farm and mountain. Black Eagles nest in the mountains nearby.
Fish eagles, Buzzards, Falcons and many other raptors can be spotted. You’ll hear the Nightjars every night, probably the Barn Owls and Spotted Eagle Owls too. Sunbirds and Weaverbirds will dart around in front of the cottages.
