Bo-Kapie self-catering cottage, built in 1833, is one of the oldest houses in Swellendam.
It is also the last of the houses dating back to the slave history of Swellendam, which ended with their emancipation in 1834.
Swellendam is situated on the N2 National Road, midway between Cape Town and George on the scenic Garden Route, and is the third oldest town in South Africa.

Bo-Kapie is a little flat-roofed Cape Georgian-style cottage with a moulded parapet, which was the preferred style of the Muslim artisans of the time. It is reminiscent of the typical Bo-Kaap houses in upper Cape Town, as they still exist today.
