We welcome you to the The Anchorage situated in a private and picturesque setting, right on the Goukou River which is navigable for 17 km, yet is only 3 km from the beach and town. We offer you stylish bedrooms with king-size or twin beds, under floor heating in the full bathrooms, heated towel rails, shared DSTV, kitchenette and balcony or verandah with lovely views onto the river. We pride ourselves in serving you a delicious breakfast. There is a restaurant on the property. The perfect place to unwind and relax.

Anchorage Accommodation

Five stylish bedrooms include quality king-size or twin beds, under floor heating in the full bathrooms (free standing shower, bath etc), heated towel rails, kitchenette (fully equipped with stove / oven, microwave, fridge, kettle, cutlery, crockery etc.) and balcony / verandah with lovely views onto the river.
Every unit has a Weber braai at its disposal.

Please note: The satellite TV (including M-Net) is a shared one.The balcony and private verandahs invite guests to relax and enjoy the spectacular views and the tranquil surroundings.

The sun sets behind the river and the hills which can be experienced from anywhere on the property. Why not have a swim in the river, or catch some fish or enjoy the scenery on one of our canoes.

Anchorage Facilities

The Anchorage is operated by a friendly German-South African couple - Annette and Craig Thorne - who have been in the hospitality industry for many years.

You can choose between Self Catering or Bed and Breakfast accommodation and delicious breakfasts are served.

The Anchorage is a perfect place to unwind and relax. Braai (barbecue) areas (ie Weber braai's) and canoes available. 9-hole golf course, scenic walks and river and sea fishing are also great activities to try.

The Anchorage - Travel Information:
Still Bay is an excellent location for nature enthusiasts. Highly recommendable: Wide sandy beaches and safe swimming in the warm Indian Ocean, Whale Watching (mid June to November), Bird Watching, Hiking, Surfing, Wind Surfing, Kiting, Fishing (River, Beach and Sea) or Golf (2x 9-hole Golf Courses) etc.

The small village of Jongensfontein is an ideal resort for simply relaxing while 10 km to the east, on a river mouth, Stilbaai offers activities like boating on the estuary and deep sea fishing.
Close by is the settlement of Melkhoutfontein, where there are the first botanical gardens to be run by a previously disadvantaged community.

The Garden Route from Stilbaai through Mossel Bay and on to George, Wilderness, Knysna and Tsitsikamma is a magnificent stretch of coastline hosting southern rights in their season, humpbacks between May and December and Bryde's whales all year round.
Even killer whales are occasionally spotted.
The steps if prehistoric nab can be marvelled at the ancient fish traps which are visible at low tide. Tame eels are fed at 11h00 daily at the historic homestead, Palinggat.
