St Helena Bay is one of the world's principal fishing centres.
The cold Benguela current surges upwards along this part of the coast bringing nutrient-rich waters to the bay, resulting in the abundant sea life.
In winter, snoek is caught and the harbour is a vibrant, bustling hive of activity, as the fish are sold directly off the boats.

Directions to Sea Trader
From Cape Town, take the R27 and then turn left at the Vredenburg turn-off just after the bridge.
Continue towards Vredenburg and turn right at the first traffic lights in Vredenburg.
Travel 12 km until you reach the St. Helena bay turn-off and turn left.
Continue 15 km until you reach the Britannia bay turn-off and turn left.
Proceed to the dirt road, continue for about 900 m, and then turn right at Cape St. Martin Private Nature Reserve/Sea Trader.
Continue through the first traffic circle and at the second circle turn right towards Sea Trader.
