Teniqua Treetops Accommodation

Luxurious, self-catering, tented tree houses offer a unique opportunity to sleep, eat and shower up in the canopy of the forest, surrounded by birdsong and butterflies. teniqua treetops sedgefield

Built on hand crafted platforms and situated in carefully chosen beauty spots, they have comfortable tented bedrooms, fully equipped kitchens and leafy luxury bathrooms. The ultimate romantic holiday or family fun in the sun.
Some of the grand, old trees provide the focal point for each of the eight, unique and individually crafted units.

All the self-catering tree houses are set in quiet and secluded spaces of their own, with wonderful views of the surrounding forest and the gorge that leads down to the Karatara river. Careful attention has been paid to the positioning of the treehouses, each site carefully chosen to limit environmental impact in this private nature reserve.
Some of the living spaces in our units are open to the elements and although they are serviced daily, you may find the odd additional occupant in an open area, such as a tree frog, or the harmless rain spider.

All treehouses have an open deck, usually under canvas, with a braai (Kettle BBQ) so remember your charcoal and firelighters.
Sleeping areas are extremely comfortable with all bedding and linen provided. The tents are sealed units that zip closed, all have electric blankets and heaters for chilly evenings.
You'll find everything you need in the kitchen, excluding food. All our kitchens have hand made furniture and fittings and are well equipped with a gas cooker, a microwave and a large fridge.
An advance shopping service is available by arrangement.

Teniqua Treetops Facilities

Swim in the cola-coloured water of the remote and unspoiled Karatara river, picnic on its beautiful banks and explore the deep forested gorge. Or chill out on the wooden deck of our swimming complex perched high on the hill, the converted farm dams are fun for both kids and adults.
You'll love the peace and quiet, the sounds of the forest, river and bird song, and on occasion, the sound of the sea.
Sedgefield (23km) is our nearest village for supplies. It sports a supermarket, restaurants, hotel, post office, famous Saturday morning craft and produce market and a church.

All treehouses have fully equipped kitchen facilities including cookers, microwaves, fridges, and all utensils. Linen is provided and is changed every 3 or 4 days. The tree houses are fully serviced.
On site and close to the homestead, is a family braai area with table and seating, an indoor games room with exercise equipment, table tennis, games etc.

Outside, you'll find a big jungle gym with a swing and a sandpit for the kids. There's also a trampoline to keep them amused.
We have 2 farm dams converted to swimming pools with easy chairs and decks, a great place to sunbathe and cool off. The smaller dam is a children's pool and it's right in sight of the main pool, so you'll have peace of mind, with kids nearby.

Then there's the river walk. It's quite strenuous as it's down into the Karatara gorge where you'll find a lovely array of rock pools, cold, cola-coloured but potable river water, beautiful foliage and plant life and of course, plenty of birds, lizards etc. Bask on the rocks for awhile and then chill out in the rock pools.
It's fun to take a picnic and spend a few hours. The walk along the river is very special and you won't meet anyone along the way...

For those foolish enough to want to do some work, we have a 16 person conference centerwith 2 breakaway rooms and a wireless hotspot. This is a wonderful environment for a meeting, particularly if you want somewhere off the beaten track with ample parking for all attending.

It's the ultimate romantic holiday or family fun in the sun - memorable and authentic.

WHAT TO BRING ALONG...

Please be aware that you are going to be in the bush. This is not a pristine, manicured environment; it is part of the forest and has a sense of wilderness attached to it. Generally, the areas around the tree houses and the pathways to them are clear.

The River Walk can be a little taxing and is quite steep, so you would benefit from bringing a pair of walking boots, shoes or takkies. Once down in the gorge, there are good places to swim, so bring your costume or swim wear and towel. It's advisable to take a water bottle and save some for the return walk uphill.
PLEASE NOTE: The area down at the river is litter free. There are no bins for rubbish, so what goes down, must come back up!!

The weather is variable, it can be sunny, windy, rainy in one day. We get approximately 4 days rain and 4 days overcast in any month. Its a good idea to pack a light cape or waterproof in any event.
All units have electricity. This is supplied from mains. There are odd occasions when the power goes off and in this instance, we do have candles in the tree houses.

A spare box of matches or a lighter won't go amiss. A torch is very useful as there are no outside lights and when there is no moon, it is very dark at night.
On site, and at each tree house, there are BBQ (braai) facilities, so bring charcoal and meat. There are double door electric fridges and microwaves in all the units. The cookers run off gas.
Binoculars.... lots to see and wonderful views, don't forget your camera.
Things for the beach - you may want to visit the many stunning beaches nearby...

Knysna is within driving distance with all its' attractions so bring an outfit or two for 'just in case' you go out. Most of our guests relax to such an extent that they don't go out at all..... everything you could possibly want is here...
If you like games, bring one or two and cards are probably a good idea... there is a communal games room too.
Food can be purchased at the well-stocked local shop in Sedgefield and we have an emergency shop on site with a very limited supply of essential items, e.g. toothpaste!!
