The sunrise over the lake is a must, and a feature of life at Lakeside Lodge (have your camera ready). This can be watched from one of the benches, or for some spectacular shots go down to the jetty. There is nothing like a canoe ride on the still waters at sunrise to appreciate the abundant birdlife of the area. Take a walk through the forest, or arrange for a bike and cycle out to Swartvlei beach and gather shells as the mist lifts. Visit the bird hide at Rondevlei, to see who the early-feathered risers are. By now the coffee may be out!

About Lakeside Lodge:
Lakeside Lodge is an exclusive eco-retreat on the banks of a magnificent lake in the Wilderness National Park, in the Knysna District of South Africa's beautiful Cape Garden Route region. Only 5 minutes to the beach, and close to Knysna and George, Lakeside Lodge offers self catering or bed and breakfast accommodation set in the most peaceful forest and lake surroundings

After the sunrises our Lakeside Breakfasts are the start to your day and can be taken inside next to the fire, on the verandah, or out on the lawns. We encourage guests to get together socially over breakfast.
We will be in attendance to help you plan your day and attend to your special needs like onward bookings, or extending your stay!!!
Breakfast is a self-service buffet, followed by eggs and bacon to order. Our speciality is pure fruit juices from our farm factory in the Cape, home made fresh fruit salad and an assortment of delicious preserves from the fruit farms in the area as well as our own home baked health bread. Enjoy a leisurely breakfast from 8.30 onwards, we won’t rush you.
Sunsets are magnificent in this area. They can best be seen from the shoreline on the opposite side of the lake, take the car or bikes.
Alternatively go to the lagoon mouth and watch it set over Gerike's Point. Or simply sit out at our pool and enjoy a sundowner while the sun slides away behind the dunes.

Lakeside Lodge Facilities

Our Charming garden provides a serene setting for you to enjoy our delicious breakfasts, and our cosy lodgings away from the crowd are a secure base for Honeymooners, Nature lovers, or Adventure seekers.

There are seven tastefully decorated lake facing rooms, a guest lounge with a full size billiard table, a computer with 24 hour internet connection and a welcoming fireplace for those chilly winter days.
Outdoor activities include swimming pool, mountain bikes, tennis court, golf chipping on the lawns, croquet court and spectacular bird watching. Canoes are available for hire.
On our doorstep we have unspoilt golden beaches on the Indian Ocean, fishing, diving, paragliding, hikes, trails and more. And within scenic day drives you can visit the Cango caves and Ostrich Farms, ride the old Steam train from the Railway museum in George along the coast to the Maritime museum in Mossel Bay, picnic in the Knysna forests.

More informaiton on the area:
Although there is much to do at Lakeside lodge, there is also a lot to do in the vicinity, and we are ideally situated to enjoy most of the offerings in the Garden Route.
BEACHES
The best swimming beaches in the vicinity are Swartvlei and the Sedgefield Lagoon Mouth. The Goukamma behind Lake Pleasant Hotel is great for walking and tanning. Further on, Buffalo Bay offers tremendous swimming and surfing.
At Knysna it is best to go to Brenton on Sea for a snack and visit to the beach, otherwise to the lagoon.A most picturesque beach, just beyond Knysna, is Noetsie.

Then at Plett for snorkelling, surfing and socialising. A really wonderful beach for walking, tanning, picnicking and swimming is Keerboomstrand, after Plett.
West of us at Victoria Bay is good for everything, and is a surfer’s mecca. Another nice spot is Herold's Bay. There are beaches at Klein Brack, Groot Brack and Mossel Bay, worth a visit when all the others have been covered.

FISHING
The Lake has many fish, but the best is the Leervis, which can be several kilos in weight and offers tremendous fights on a light line. Gerike's Point at Swartvlei Beach is very popular, as are the rocks off the Goukamma. Of course there is fishing at Plett and Keerbooms, and at Knysna Deep Sea Fishing Charters are available. A fisherman can spend weeks here. The Bass fishing at Groenvlei, at Lake Pleasant Caravan Park, is good.

Other activities available close by:
CYCLING
There are a few rides from here and some forest trails between Knysna and Plett. We have two bikes, which you may use.
BOWLS
available at all the towns, including SedgefieldADDITIONAL SPECIALIST ACTIVITIES
Horse riding lessons, equitrailing, scuba diving, parasailing and yacht charter, are available in the area. Bungi jumping, cage diving and abseiling can also be arranged.
4x4 OUTINGS
For the 4x4' enthusiasts there are a few forest drives you can do on your own as well as some serious trails, or you can join in with the local clubs on a Sunday outing.
GOLF
There are courses in Plett, Knysna & George, including Fancourt, as well as a 9 hole mashee course at the Fynbos Restaurant, and don't forget our chipping course at the Lodge.

Directions to Lakeside Lodge:
From Cape Town, on the N2 Highway, 16 km past Wilderness, or coming from Port Elizabeth, 6 km past Sedgefield, turn at the Swartvlei signboard. Follow the tarred road, take the first turn right, cross the railway line and pass Pine Lake Marina on your right. Continue to the end of the tar, past Trail's End, and you'll find Lakeside Lodge straight ahead.
