Passersby are welcome to drop in for a meal en route to The Kruger National Park, Mozambique, Swaziland, The Panorama or the Lowveld.

Old Joes Kaia Accommodation

The living area of the main building is intended for relaxation and comfort, with stunning views of the valley and adjacent mountain.
Quality time can be spent either reading a book or enjoying the company of friends or fellow travellers.
Alternatively the peace and tranquillity of the valley can be absorbed whilst reflecting on the sheer beauty of the region. In winter a fire place provides diners with that cosy ambiance only experienced in the African bush.

Accommodation is offered in Log Cabins, Rondavels and Kaia Rooms. Each of these units has a different theme and is uniquely decorated accordingly. All units have a balcony /veranda and private bathroom en suite (bath and shower).

5 Log Cabins:
1 x twin beds (convertible to king-size)
4 x queen-size beds
3 Rondavels:
1 x queen-size bed
1 x triple – 2 ¾ beds + 1 single bed
1 x queen-size extra length bed + 1 single bed
4 Kaia Rooms:
2 x queen-size beds
2 x twin beds (convertible to king size)
1 Family Unit:
1 x queen-size bed
2 x single beds
A two-bedroomed unit with an interleading door, each room with its own en suite bathroom and outside patio.

Comfortable accommodation is provided in 13 units, each uniquely decorated.
Lovely walks along the Crocodile River reward the keen birder with interesting sightings. A trained bird guide is available to assist in bird identification and to point out some elusive species. For those who prefer to admire the beauty of the valley on wheels can do so on mountain bicycles which are available for rent.
The latest addition to Old Joe’s Kaia is a magnificent labyrinth. Guests in need of self-time, reflection and tranquility can stroll along its path in search of inner peace.

Lodge Facilities And Service

Restaurant:
Old Joe’s Kaia is well-known for its excellent cuisine and fabulous wines. Meals are creative yet wholesome with a country flair in true South African style. Trout from the area is a regular feature, as well as venison and ostrich. Fresh vegetables and herbs are harvested from the vegetable garden.
Meals can be enjoyed inside the cosy lounge-dining area or outside on the balcony at tree-top level. The view from the balcony is graced by the mountain in the distance and the lush garden below. Many interesting birds can be observed from here whilst enjoying a beverage or light snack.

Picnic baskets or food packs /backpacks can also be arranged.
Advance bookings are essential for Dinner, while it is advisable to book for Breakfast and Lunch, especially for groups.

VEGETABLE GARDEN:
The kitchen uses as much organic produce as possible. Establishing its own vegetable garden and buying as much local free-range produce as possible in order to reduce food miles are all part of Old Joe's Kaia's underlying philosophy of providing the guest with a holistic experience of harmony and tranquillity.
