About Montagu (180 kms from Cape Town)
Cogmans Kloof is one of the major entrances to Montagu. The route was made passable through shear rockface when Thomas Bain built the Cogmans Kloof pass and blasted a hole through the rockface which is evident today as you enter the town.

Montagu nestles in a fertile valley surrounded by the spectacular Langeberg mountain ranges. The town is often considered to be the most scenic on the famed Route 62 in addition to being the Route 62 gateway to the Little Karoo. Montagu's legendary rock formations brings climbers from far and wide to test their mountain climbing skills on these awesome peaks.

The town is well known for its vineyards, fruit orchards, beautiful gardens and healing mineral springs which bring visitors from around the world.

Montagu provides one of the finest examples of well preserved Cape Dutch and Georgian architecture which is prevalent throughout the village. Long Street alone houses 14 of the town's 22 national monuments of which Joubert House is probably one of the best examples to view.
