We absolutely raved about the whole tour , your knowledge of the wines, the lunch and being able to bottle our own blend at one of the farms was only some of the compliments received. We highly recommend R62 Wine Tours. This is definitely worth a one night stopover between Cape Town and the Garden Route Keep up the good work.

Montagu - more than just a stopover...
Two hours drive from Cape town and two and a half from Oudtshoorn, you'll find the picturesque town of Montagu, after driving through Cogman's Kloof where cathedral-like mountain peaks, tower into sunny skies. Stay in this historical village with it's good restaurants and use it as base to explore the Western Cape. Montagu is situated on the legendary Route 62, the world's longest wine route and with its perfect weather, you will find plenty to do here....

I will gladly help to plan your holiday and give some information about the area. We have beautiful hiking trails like the Bloupunt- and the Cogmanskloof trail, starting from the "Old Mill House", not far away from Blommenhuis. Enjoy abundant birdlife, stroll through town on the Historic Homes Route, visit some of the many artists (arts and craft route) or do some wine tasting as many award-winning wines comes from this region.

Here you can find some of the finest restaurants in the region. Apart from superb dining experiences, Montagu is also the mountain mecca of the Western Cape, where you can go rock climbing, mountain biking, abseiling, kloofing, or simply enjoy this peaceful haven. Montagu has it all.

Route 62 is famous for its inspiring rock formations, orchards, vineyards, local herbs and mineral springs. Guests can visit the two museums, Art Galleries, wineries, Kanonkop, the art and craft route or the Village Market on Saturday mornings with local produce. Blommenhuis is 200m from a bird hideaway and walking distance to the museums and restaurants.

Other interests are the Tractor trip up in the Langeberge, National Monuments and many walks and trails or let us take you on a Cellar Tour, which also includes wine-tasting and lunch on an wine estate. Read more about this at "News and Information".

We are situated about 200 metres away from the "bird tree". Here birdlife abounds with 18 species, including Sacred Ibis, Herons, Cormorants, Egrets, Shrikes and Weavers, using it as a breeding ground with more than 52 visiting species identified. The bird tree is on the corner of Bath- and Barrystreet and grows next to the "Leiwater Dam" which is fed by the Keisie River. At an early stage a water furrow was built which was replaced by a pipeline in 1950. Every stand sold in 1851 and 1854 was entitled to have irrigation rights.

Today, 150 years later the Leidam still suplies irrigation water to these stands "water erven", thats the reason why we, at Blommenhuis, still gets irrigation water once a week for our garden.

Another "must do" is the nature garden. A friendly walk between numerous plantspecies with a magnificent view of the Langeberg mountains and Montagu.
