The beautiful natural environment, the well-documented cultural-historic elements, the special “sense of place”.
The Witteberg Private Nature Reserve is located 250 km from Cape Town in the heart of the Witteberg Mountains south-west of the historic village of Matjiesfontein.
Three Witteberg vegetation units exist on the property, namely Matjiesfontein Shale Fynbos, Shale Renosterbosveld and Quartzite Fynbos. The rich cultural-historic elements on the property include Late Stone Age artefacts, marine trace fossils, many historic buildings and other historic structures.
The total size of the reserve is 4365 hectares, or about 44 square kilometres. The prolific birdlife includes many colourful species of nectar sippers.

Self-catering cottage (8-sleeper) : A rustic, secluded self-catering unit accommodating 8 people in two bedrooms. Two bathrooms with shower, toilet and basin.
Main bedroom with queen-size bed & second bedroom with 2 bunk-beds. Lounge with 1 bunk-bed. Lounge, dining area and stoep with mobile braai unit.
Kitchen fully equipped for 8 people with gas stove, gas fridge and sink. Oil lamps, lanterns and candles for lighting.

Self-catering apartment (5-sleeper) : A self-catering unit accommodating 5 people in two bedrooms. One bathroom with shower, toilet and basin.
Main bedroom with queen-size bed and second bedroom with two single beds. Sleeper coach in lounge. Lounge, dining area with fireplace.
Enclosed braai area. Kitchenette fully equipped for 5 people with gas stove, fridge/freezer and sink. Eco-friendly solar electricity.

Directions to Witteberg Private Reserve
From Touws River, take the N1 direction north towards Laingsburg2. 27 km past Touws River, turn right at the signboard “Witteberge” (it is 1 km past Constable station)3.
Continue for about 24 km on this gravel road and turn right at the signboard “Elandskloof”4. Continue for about 1,7 km to the Elandskloof gate (please keep the gate closed)5. Continue for about 3,2 km and turn left to reception, a further 0,3 kmFrom Laingsburg (and Beaufort West)1.
From the N1 in Laingsburg, turn left at the signboard “Anysberg & Ladismith”2. Continue for about 5,5 km on this tarred road and turn right at the signboard “Witteberge”3.
After about 0,5 km on this gravel road, keep left at the fork in the road4. After a further 40 km, turn left at the signboard “Elandskloof”5. Continue for about 1,7 km to the Elandskloof gate (please keep the gate closed)6. Continue for about 3,2 km and turn left to reception, a further 0,3 km
