In keeping with a minimalist and truly South African theme, the owners have decorated the game lodge in a simple yet tasteful style reflecting the rich heritage of the Karoo Region.

Accommodation capacity has been restricted to ensure the necessary escape from the daily hustle and bustle for our guests and to provide a background of immense comfort, personal touch and attention to detail.

Set up in the heart of the Karoo Heartlands, you will find Koffylaagte Game Lodge, a private game reserve located 130km from Port Elizabeth.

The 12 bedroom accommodation capacity is therefore spread between 3 luxury safari tents, a hunting lodge consisting of 3 luxury en-suite bedrooms, 2 x two bedroomed self-catering farmhouse units and a bush camp (self catering) with two permanent en-suite tents, which will provide a discerning guest with a variety of accommodation choices, as well as space and privacy at all times.

Nyala Valley Safari Tents:
Overlooking the breathtaking Nyala Valley, you will find the Nyala Valley Safari Tents. These three elegantly furnished units, with their private wooden decks, offer unsurpassed game viewing, tranquility and privacy, yet are situated a mere 150m from the main lodge dwellings.
These units are perfect for couples wishing to experience the serenity and beauty of the African bush, whilst experiencing absolute comfort and luxury.

Hunting Lodge:
The Hunting Lodge consists of three luxury, en-suite bedrooms and two other rooms with a shared bathroom. The general guest area consists of a bar, indoor braai (barbeque) and a ten-seater dining table, as well as a games room with a pool table and cable TV.
The lodge has retained its original character with the various trophies that are on display. There is also a fully equipped kitchen. The lodge can be hired for either full board guest use or self-catering in the case of a large group.

The Historic Farmhouse:
The original farmhouse has been converted into two 2-bedroomed self-catering / full board units. Each unit comprises a master bedroom with a king size bed and a second bedroom with two single beds.
There is also a comfortable living room with sofas and a six-seater dining table. The kitchens are equipped with a refrigerator, microwave oven and stove and also provide cooking utensils, cutlery and china. These units are perfect for families or friends.

Bush Camp:
There are two double self-catering permanent tents with en-suite bathrooms. There is also a lapa with camp fire, a communal undercover dining area and bush kitchen. Hot water, gas refrigerator, heating units in the tents and an electric generator are available at the tented camp.
The camp is situated a few kilometers away from the main lodge, offering our guests the peace and harmony of the African bush. It is a great experience for a father-and-son weekend or family getaway.

Other Facilities:
There are 2 separate outdoor braai (barbeque) facilities; one is situated in the thatched lapa that offers camp fire seating for 24 guests for larger gatherings, parties or “Bosberaad” meetings.
The large rock pool overlooks a splendour of rolling hills and a waterhole with surrounding Lucerne plantation which is frequented by various antelope.

Activities
The lodge is geared to provide our guests with fun-filled activities and adventures. There are 12-seater open Land Rover game vehicles, offering day and night game drives.
One can also enjoy the rich game viewing experience at Koffylaagte with guided safari walks, quad bike and horseback safari rides.

Koffylaagte Game Lodge actively contributes to sustainable wildlife conservancy by breeding game species. Breeding programmes include species such as White Rhinoceros, Cape Buffalo, Giraffe, Burchells Zebra, as well as some rare antelope species such as Nyala, Waterbok and Lechwe.
Depending on the availability of such breeding programmes on site, guests may participate in close animal handling, feeding or veterinary attention given to the animals during captivity stage.

With an abundance of wildlife, some 20 species of South African antelope, White Rhino, Cape Buffalo, Giraffe and Zebra breeding programs, as well as other mammals such as warthog, bush pig, mongoose, fox, porcupine, jackal, meerkat and primates such as baboon and vervet monkey, a large variety of birds, including bird of prey such as the majestic black eagle and the magnificent Karoo flora resembling a natural succulent garden with aloe, euphorbia, spekboom, as well as the protected Cycad and Elephant's Foot, Koffylaagte presents a rich and rewarding visual feast in this 1800 hectare reserve.

Farm products:
Koffylaagte produces its own Biltong, Boerewors (sausages), minced meat and other various cut game meat specialties.
All meat products are produced from game that roam and feed freely in the reserve, hence they are fully organic and contain no preservatives, hormones, pesticides etc.

Meat and other meat by-products can be purchased from our butchery on the reserve to braai (barbeque) during your visit and / or to take home.
All products are shrink-wrapped, labelled and packed in various sizes. The lodge prides itself on providing guests with true Karoo farm style catering: we can provide guests with catering from tasty homemade muffins at tea time to a mouthwatering Venison roast for dinner!

This TGCSA 4 star graded country retreat lies at the foot of the Karoo Mountain Belt, located between the World Heritage Site of Baviaanskloof and the second largest national park in South Africa, the "Addo Elephant National Park" and offers their visitors day excursions and tour programs called “Heritage Trails”.

Koffylaagte History:
Koffylaagte, literally translated means "Coffee Hollow" and owes its name to its colourful history as the resting place of the early settler traders.
The 1870's farmhouse, its decor and artifacts, as well as the ox wagon, that rests outside the Farmhouse, bear testimony to this bygone era and make Koffylaagte is a uniquely South African Game Lodge.
This pristine reserve, which is dedicated to wildlife management and breeding programs, has been stripped of all remnants related to its early farming days and has been converted back to its magnificent fauna and flora, becoming a place to rest your mind, body and soul, reminiscent of the days of the early settlers.
