invite you to come to Mont Plaisir and experience the serenity and beauty
of the Eastern Free State - and the Lesotho mountains, like we do every
day.
Mont Plaisir Guest Farm is a working farm located 5 km
out of Fouriesburg town with four luxurious fully equipped self catering
units and one B&B in the historic Old Main House.
In the garden is a lapa with hammock, where you can enjoy the beauty of
the sunset or gaze at the stars at night.
Mont Plaisir Guest Farm Accommodation
The accommodation, except the Field Cottage, is set in a beautiful garden
with lots of old trees, lawns and spectacular views.
1. The Farm House is a large luxurious and beautifully
restored farm house, partly built from sandstone. It has a spacious lounge
with fireplace and a comfortable large fully equipped kitchen.
There are three bedrooms, and two bathrooms. The bedrooms and the bathrooms
are equipped with under floor heating.
It will accommodate six persons, based on two persons per room, but the
bedrooms are large enough to put in additional beds when required.
It is beautifully located under large old trees in the garden. This unit
is perfect for a larger family or for a group of friends
who enjoy comfort and style.
2. The Field Cottage is a little jewel, something special.
This exceptionally beautiful unit is build from sandstone and thatch and
will offer you full privacy and luxurious comfort.
It is situated on a slope overlooking the valley and the mountains and
you will see lots of birds and wild life. It has a spacious beautifully
furnished lounge with fireplace.
It has one bedroom with en-suite bathroom (shower) and a double sleeper
couch in the lounge and has a comfortable fully equipped kitchen.
There is a beautiful thatched veranda from which you
can enjoy the sunset over the mountains. The bedroom, bathroom and kitchen
are equipped with under floor heating.
The Field Cottage is situated in a field of the farm
separate from the other accommodation and offers lots of privacy and spectacular
views and lots of pure nature.
3. The Rondawel is a nice romantic
unit, built from sandstone and thatch. It has one bedroom with en-suite
bathroom (shower) and a sleeper couch in the lounge.
There is a small but fully equipped kitchen and in the lounge is a nice
fire place. It is beautifully located under large old trees in the garden.
This unit is perfect for a couple or for a couple with one or two children
4. The Chalet is a nice self catering unit.
Set with the front to the west, it offers from the veranda a fully un-obstructed
view and the most stunning sunsets over the White Mountains.
It has one bedroom with a Queen-size bed and a three-quarter bed and an
en-suite bathroom (shower and bath). It has a comfortable fully equipped
kitchen and a nice lounge opening to the veranda.
In the lounge is a double sleeper couch. This unit is perfect for two
couples or for a family with some children. The bedroom and bathroom have
under floor heating and in the lounge are a nice fire place and a panel
heater.
5. The room in the Old Main House.
In this historic sand stone mansion is a beautifully furnished and decorated
bedroom with a large en-suite bathroom with bath and shower.
The room is situated at a beautiful stoep with built-in braai
and has its own entrance. In the room are coffee and tea facilities. The
stoep, the braai and a fridge are at your disposal. It is very suitable
for a couple who prefer to dine out or just want to prepare a casual supper
on the braai.
All buildings have fireplaces and their own
braai facilities (fire wood is provided for). The units are all
fully equipped and include bedding and bath towels. All beds are either
queen size or single, with extra length mattresses.
Mont Plaisir Guest Farm Facilities
Mont Plaisir Guest Farm is ideal for out-door activities,
such as hiking, horse riding, fishing, hunting, 4x4, quad biking and abseiling,
but for those who just want to relax it is also the place to be.
We offer from the farm several horse riding trips, such as hourly rides,
day rides and overnight rides. Mont Plaisir also offers 4x4 day
trips in the area and into Lesotho with its majestic Maluti Mountains,
the Katse Dam, the various nature reserves, and of course snow skiing
in winter at Afri-ski. For the more adventures we also have several overnight
tours into Lesotho.
Enjoy the adventure of horse riding and discover the
beauty of the area on horseback. We offer a variety of possibilities for
both the experienced rider and the beginner.
The Eastern Free State does not only offer you a mild summer climate,
but it is also your gateway to the unique experience of winter sport in
Africa.
Located on the Lesotho border Fouriesburg is only 65 km away from Afri
Ski, a unique venue for winter sport in Africa.
The Afri Ski resort, and in general the Maluti Mountains, offers you
the unique experience of fun in the unspoiled snow. Afri Ski is easy accessible,
and usually no 4x4 is needed, a tar road will take you up to the ski slopes
at 3500 meters.
Afri Ski offers skiing and snow boarding and all skiing
equipment is available for rent and for the un- experienced instructors
are waiting. You can take group instruction or private lessons.
This rare opportunity for winter sport in Africa is offered to you on
just a short, but beautiful, ride from Mont Plaisir.
After a pleasant and active day in the snow you can return to the safe
and comfortable accommodation at Mont Plaisir and spent the evening around
the fireplace.
How To Get To Mont Plaisir
From Johannesburg
Take the N3 in the direction of Durban. Just after the garage (Engen Vaal-1
stop), take the off ramp "Villiers / Frankfurt R26".
Follow the direction to Frankfurt on the R26. You'll pass Frankfurt and
just after Frankfurt you have to turn left into the direction of Reitz
on the R26.
From this turn off it is about 110 km straight to Bethlehem. When you
enter Bethlehem just follow the road and at the first robot continue straight
on, as well on the second robot.
Then you come to a "four stop". Here you turn right. At robot
number 6 (on the corner of KFC), you turn left into Commissioner Street.
This street will take you out of Bethlehem and back onto the R26. After
about 50 km you will see a crossing with a road sign indicating left to
Fouriesburg and right to Stasie.
Here you will also see the road sign "Mont Plaisir" to the right
in the direction of Stasie. Turn right. After about 4 km on the Stasie
road you will see the second road sign "Mont Plaisir" just opposite
the entrance gate.
From Clarens:
From Clarens take the R711 in the direction of Fouriesburg. When approaching
Fouriesburg you pass the first turn off into the village. Stay on the
R711.
About 1 km after the first turnoff there is a junction with the R26. Turn
right on the R 26 in the direction of Bethlehem.
After 2 km you will see a road sign left for Mont Plaisir.
Turn left there, it is also the direction to the station (stasie). After
about 4 km on the Stasie road you will see the second road sign "Mont
Plaisir" just opposite the entrance gate.
From Bloemfontein:
From Bloemfontein take the N8 in the direction of Botshabelo, Thaba Nchu,
Maseru and Ladybrand (68km).
From Ladybrand continue on the R26 in the direction of Ficksburg (71km).
From Ficksburg continue on the R26 in the direction of Fouriesburg (53km).
When you approach Fouriesburg pass the intersection with the R711 to Clarens
and continue in the direction of Bethlehem.
After 2 km you will see a road sign of Mont Plaisir indicating to the
left. On the intersection you will also see a road sign to the left to
Stasie.
Turn left on to the Stasie road. After about 4 km on the Stasie road you
will see the second road sign "Mont Plaisir" just opposite the
entrance gate.
History of Mont Plaisir:
Dutch emigre owners Robbie and Natasha named the farm "Mont
Plaisir", which means "Mountain of Indulgence", after an
old colonial coffee plantation in South America where they used to live
before coming to South Africa in 2003.
Fouriesburg is situated in the Brandwater Basin, south of Bethlehem, in
the Golden Gate area, and offers you the fantastic scenery of the Red
Mountains, the White Mountains, the Maluti Mountains, the splendid
Golden Gate National Park and many historic sites from the Anglo-Boer
War.
