Franshoek Mountain Lodge is surrounded by mountains and farmlands with the nearest tar road being at least 10 km away. The lodge is nestled in the heart of the cherry growing district in the highlands of the Eastern Free State. Franshoek Mountain Lodge lies about 20 kms outside of Ficksburg and has a dramatic landscape of sheer sandstone cliffs and gentle green slopes scattered with an abundance of wild flowers.

Franshoek Mountain Lodge Accommodation

The lodge has only 10 rooms, it is cosy and is equipped with a variety of activities suitable for all generations. Breakfast is served in the sandstone dining room which also caters for 3 course dinners and has a fully stocked bar. Lunches and picnics are available on request. Each rom has a private entrance from the garden and the swimming pool is made of sandstone where lunches can be served in summer. For relaxation, there is also a thatched steam hut, hideaways under the waterfall and a well stocked library.

The master bedroom in the thatched self catering cottage has a king size bed, slipper bath and beautiful mountain views. The 2 double bedrooms can accommodate up to 8 guest and there's also a wooden sleeping deck that is reached through a spiral staircase.

Room 4
Is a double room leading to and sharing a bathroom with room 1. The combination can be used as a standard double or as a family suite.

Room 5
Double with en-suite. Rooms 3,4 & 5 all have small glazed sitting rooms with beautiful views across the gardens to the mountains beyond.

Room 6
Double room leading to and sharing a bathroom with room 7. A large beautiful corner room facing sunrise with additional views over the garden. This room has a unique feature: a screened off cast-iron bath in the bedroom. It also has an open fireplace for when the winter evenings turn a bit cool: Perfect for a honeymoon suite.

Twin bunk Adjoining room 6. Opens up onto a beautiful paved courtyard facing the rising sun.

Room 8
Large double leading to and sharing a bathroom with room 9. Facing East, this room catches the sun as it rises over the mountains.

Twin sharing a bathroom with Room 11.

Room 11
Double leading to room 10. Rooms 1, 9,10 & 11 are south facing, this makes them perfect in the height of summer when shade is preferred to direct sunshine. Room 11 also has an open fireplace which will be prepared & lit on request.

How To Get To Franshoek Mountain Lodge

From Johannesburg
Take the N3(Durban Highway) to 2nd turn off to Villiers (this is the one just before the toll gate), turn right to Frankfort and bypass it (you are now on the R26, stay on it till the Rustlers turnoff). 2km past Frankfort turn left following the sign to Reitz, Tweeling & Bethlehem. After 1 hour you arrive in Bethlehem and turn right down the main street to the town centre. Turn left at the Fouriesburg & Ficksburg sign (Commissioner street). Drive for 30 minutes to Fouriesburg and bypass it. 23km after Fouriesburg turn right onto dirt road at Franshoek Mountain Lodge signboard. Travel over a railway line and 8.5km over the mountain pass. Almost at the bottom of the pass, you come to a crossroad. Turn right again and travel 3km to the main gate.

From Durban
Take the N3 to Harrismith & then left to Bethlehem and follow the directions as above.

From Cape Town
Take the N1 to Bloemfontein, take the Ladybrand exit & continue to Ficksburg. From Ficksburg - take the Fouriesburg road for 9km & turn left onto a dirt road at the Franshoek sign. Travel for 15km over 2 crossroads & 3km after the 2nd crossroad turn right into Franshoek.
