Eshowe, established in 1881, is the oldest town in Zululand and is also the capital of the former colony of Zululand. The town is steeped in Zulu and English colonial history. Eshowe is a quaint country town and has an overflow of interesting and colourful characters. It is only one hour to the north of Ballito and one hour and 15 minutes from Durban’s new King Shake International Airport at La Mercy. Zululand is on the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast and is the traditional homeland of the Zulu people. It is the area to the north of the Tugela River and extends to Mozambique.
