Attractions
The Berea suburb of Durban lies perched on the crest of a ridge above the city, an exclusive residential suburb, littered with an eclectic mix of architectural styles that include large Victorian, Edwardian, art deco and modern homes that bring to mind the colonial days of yore, and support the city’s epithet as the last British outpost in South Africa.

The views from this garden suburb with its wide tree-lined streets and Indian mynah cacophony at sun down, offer some of the most superb sea and city views in the city.
The city centre is an easy bus trip, the beaches are close by, the suburb is renowned for its pavement restaurants and diverse mix of African, Indian and European cultures, and there are a couple of shopping centres here that offer easy and accessible shopping.

Durban’s Botanic Gardens on the eastern slopes of the ridge that began as a site for growing experimental tropical crops, today offer a herbarium, an orchid house, a cycad collection, a garden for the blind and a charity tea garden.

Fashionable Florida Road that leads off the Ridge, south of Mitchell Park towards Windermere, is a hive of art galleries, restaurants and fashionable boutiques in a wash of colour and quasi-colonial, semi-bohemian lifestyle where, what began as a largely residential area, today is a humming commercial part of the city that deserves a visit for the restaurants, coffee shops and listed buildings.

And whilst you’re up on the ridge, take a trip to Mitchell Park, the tree-filled family favourite with a resident colony of tortoises, ducks and a wonderful aviary, although the coffee shop leaves a lot to be desired, rather head off to Florida Road or the harbour if it’s fabulous fare you’re after.

Durban Beachwood Golf Course
The Durban Country Club Beachwood Course is part of Durban Country Club lying about 2 km north of Durban Country Club. Although it borders the Indian Ocean, Beachwood does not quite have the accentuated undulating fairways so common to Links courses, especially those of the Country Club Course.

Durban Botanical Gardens
The Durban Botanical Gardens are famous for the original specimen of a Cycad (Encephalartos woodii) that is still widely acknowledged as probably the rarest plant in the world, as well as for its extensive collection of South African Cycad species

Sports Stadia
The ABSA Rugby Stadium, home of the Natal Sharks as well as the newly erected Moses Madhiba soccer stadium is 3 km from Norfolk House..

Durban Country Club
The Durban Country Club boasts 2 championship course; namely the Durban Country club course and the Durban Country Club Beachwood Course. Opened in 1922, the Durban Country Club is said to be one of the best golf courses in South Africa.

Natal Sharks Board
The only organisation of its kind in the world, the Natal Sharks Board protects beach users in KwaZulu Natal against shark attack with an extensive and effective network of shark nets that extend along 320 kilometres of coastline.

Royal Durban Golf Course
Flat but interesting championship course within the confines of the Greyville horse racing track, and close to the city centre.
Several holes border on the racetrack on the opening nine, so don't come to Royal with a slice. This course is one of the most demanding golf courses in the country.

uShaka Marine World
uShaka Marine World in Durban is a world-class entertainment and tourism destination. At the end of Durban's Golden Mile is the beginning of uShaka Marine World - spanning over 15 hectares of prime beach front, uShaka Marine World is Africa's largest Marine Theme park.
