Amukela (‘welcome’ in the local Shangane) is located deep in the South African bush, in the 40.000 hectare Balule private nature reserve.
Balule is part of the Greater Kruger Park and home to the Big 5 and many other animals. Bird watching is rewarding with at least 250 species recorded in this area.

The Balule nature reserve has joined the Greater Kruger Park, allowing the animals to roam freely between the Kruger national park and the private reserves on it's western boundary.
Lion, cheetah, leopard and many other rarer species are now flourishing and large numbers of elephant, buffalo and even rhino move freely between Balule and the eastern border of the Kruger Park. The main entrance gate of Balule is situated just 16 km. north of Hoedspruit.
