Marlborough is situated in the picturesque rural north-east of Wiltshire. Much of its great natural beauty is environmentally protected and it offers the discerning visitor a unique blend of modern attractions and facilities. The town displays the confidence of wealth from times past, yet today remains vibrant and progressive with its own chic café culture. There's plenty of accommodation, excellent shopping and a wide choice of places to eat. So all in all, Marlborough is a great place for a long or short weekend break at any time of the year. Because Marlborough is a market town, yes you guessed it, on Saturdays and Wednesdays the High Street hosts a market selling all kinds of stuff from locally grown produce, to pots, plants, pashminas and pottery. If you can't get enough of markets, there's also a Farmer's market (every second Saturday in the month) and a number of continental markets which descend on the town mainly in summer. The town has good road links to many varied places of interest. There is the nearby Kennet and Avon Canal with its flight of 29 locks at Caen Hill, the Wilton Windmill, the Crofton pumping station. Avebury Stone Circle is within easy reach as is the ancient Savernake Forest which is close to the town. No visit to Wiltshire is complete without experiencing this beautiful and historic area.
