McLean House Inn Accommodation

The McLean House Inn has a total of seven bedrooms, each with its own private bath. There are five bedrooms with a queen sized bed and two bedrooms with two double beds. Guests have the opportunity to enjoy a multitude of rooms throughout the inn when they stay with us.

We have several sitting rooms on the main floor of the inn that offer quiet settings. One of the most popular rooms is our sunroom facing the Colville Bay and Souris Harbour. Guests are often found here enjoying the view or curled up with a book.

There is also the dining-room area that can accommodate up to twenty-four people. This area is also used for our continental breakfast.

Another room on the main floor of the Inn, known as the parlor in the past, would have been used for the lady of the house to entertain her guests. Today this room is also available for our guests to enjoy. There are several cozy chairs and comfy couches for one to relax at the end of a long day.

North Lake Room
This room is our only bedroom located on the main floor of the inn. The beauty of the workman-ship is seen in this room with the original hardwood floors and hardwood trim. This room was once used as a room to entertain guests, offering a small library that was nestled in a glass-door cabinet built into the structure of the building. Room 101 has a private bathroom (stand-up shower), queen-sized bed, small sitting area, TV and a ceiling fan.

Souris Room
This is one of the three bedrooms located on the second floor of the inn. The original hardwood floor was created from one small square starting in the centre of the room; we have refinished this floor to enhance the beauty of the room and what it has to offer. Relax and enjoy this room in the chaise lounger that is situated in the bay window area. This room has a queen-sized bed, TV, private step-down bathroom with a full-sized bath/shower.

Greenwich Room
This is the only room on the second floor with two double beds. A lovely sitting area nestled in the bay window of this room allows our guests to truly feel at home. The private bathroom, with a full-sized bath/shower, is located across the hallway; robes are provided in the room for the convenience of the guests.

Basin Head Suite
This is a distinct room that displays the true elegance of the inn. This room is very popular among our guests, a true favourite for everyone. Room 203 faces Colville Bay, offering spectacular views from sunrise to sunset. A small sitting area located in the bay window of the room allows guests to relax in the comfort of their own room. This room offers an extra sense of romance with sheer drapery situated over the queen sized bed. The spacious ensuite bathroom has a full-sized bath/shower.

Red Point Room
The mansard style architecture is truly evident on the third floor of the inn. The Red Point room features two double beds nestled in a cozy room. This room can be enjoyed on its own or in conjunction with room 302 as a suite. The private bathroom is located across the hallway containing a full-sized tub/shower. Bathrobes are provided for the convenience of guests.

Little Harbour Suite
This room can connect with Room 301 to create a suite for our guests. When connected, it enables our guests to enjoy the two rooms together. Room 302 can be rented separately as well. This room offers a queen sized bed and an ensuite bathroom with a Jacuzzi bath/shower. The room has dome-shaped windows that reflect the charm and elegance of the past.

Colville Bay Room
A spectacular room on the top floor of the inn offers a wonderful ocean view through three dome-shaped windows. Colville Bay room is another favourite among our guests with the architecture of the past reflecting in the elegance of the room. Room 303 offers one queen-sized bed and a private ensuite bathroom with a full bath/shower.

About the McLean House Inn
The McLean House Inn This home was originally constructed in 1875 for Senator John McLean and his family by Billy Dingwell. The home took approximately two years to complete; the family moved in to their new residence in the town on Washington Street. The home was a prominent structure in this sea-side village.

John McLean was a partner in the Matthew and McLean Company. As the town increased in size, the company, too, expanded in size and capacity. The company was involved in a general store, fishing fleets, fish merchants and commerce.

In 1882, John McLean was elected to the Provincial Legislature by acclamation to represent Kings County. He continued in this position until 1916. Then, he was named to the Senate of Canada. Senator John McLean became the first Souris resident to be named to the Senate of Canada and remained in this position until 1935.

The inn has been bought and sold over the years to various business people and families.

In 2000, the home was purchased by Barb MacPhee and her family began restoring this wonderful home to some of its glory. The McLean House Inn opened its doors in August 2001. Many guests have enjoyed this wonderful historic property and we hope you will, too!

Our Location
Souris, a little sea-side town, is nestled by the Colville Bay. It has much to offer those seeking a relaxing getaway. The Bay offers a unique experience for those who like to windsurf, kite-surf or kayak.

Eastern Prince Edward Island has many white sandy beaches where you can walk for miles with the ocean surf at your feet. Visitors can enjoy historical landmarks such as lighthouses, museums and harbours that have been established and developed throughout time.
