Charlottetown hotels

Our classic house is a one hundred and sixty year old farm house, where you can enjoy a mixture of Island heritage and culture, surrounded by rich fields and the blue safe waters of Pownal Bay.

Shaded by giant oak, linden and chestnut trees, the homestead has been in the MacRae family for five generations. It has since been extensively renovated and modernized by Sandra, a direct descendent, and now offers a complete, year round vacation package for families or couples.

Our Newest home was completed in 2008 and offers all the comforts of home, and all the modern ammenities. Located adjacent to the classic home, it too offers a scenic view of Pownal Bay. Don't be surprised to awaken to the mist lifting slowly over the fields as the cattle wander by.

Both houses offer peace, tranquility and a special closeness to the land and sea. Pownal Bay is always rich in wildlife. In the Fall, there are many waterfowl, including large flocks of geese and ducks. And just off the banks of the bay , on the remnants of an old wharf, a seal colony basks on sunny days and frolics in the sea.

Step onto the balcony and take a moment to soak it all in.. the warm breeze off the bay, the sun, the water, and the rural peace.
Your stay at Waterside farm is the real Prince Edward Island Agri-tourism experience. Once you arrive and finally swim in the warm waters of Pownal Bay, relax on the porch, or drive through the countryside, you'll know this is the timeless and memorable vacation you've been waiting for.

Waterside Farm Vacation House Accommodation

MAKE IT YOUR "HOME AWAY FROM HOME"
Waterside Farm Vacation Houses are available year round. We are different than a bed and breakfast offering our guests total freedom and independence. Our house is your house when you stay with us. We offer weekly rates for Peak & off-season visits, and some special weekend getaway rates for couples.

Book a week in May or June during the spring lobster season and we'll include a meal of fresh cooked Island lobster, fresh off the boats and cooked at the Tourist House with seawater taken from Pownal Bay.

Upon request we will supply on your arrival freshly cooked lobster, shellfish, fresh Island beef, and PEI potatoes. All purchased locally... or directly from a local fisherman.

The historic character of our classic Waterside Farm Vacation House remains intact in its design and interior, with original trim and moldings, authentic and functional pieces of furniture and antiques gathered over many years.

The house can accommodate as many as 8 - 10 people. You have complete use of the whole house privately. Includes all four bedrooms, a bath and a half, living room, den, dining room, kitchen and porch. Amenities include Television, DVD player, pull-out couch, washer, dryer, dishwasher, barbeque... and more.

The entrance is through a long porch , decorated with farm and fishing artifacts, then a modern kitchen , with ten foot high ceilings and a birch , hardwood floor. It leads into the living room, with elegant furniture from years back.

Next, there's a hallway into a comfortable den, with a wall made of Island stone dug from the old basement, a modern woodstove, 27 " Television along with a DVD player and a 300 watt surround-sound system.
The half bath, shower and full laundry room facilities are also on the ground floor. It's your fully functional, yet historic "home away from home."

An old stair case, with time worn banister, takes you upstairs to the four bedrooms , full bath and an alcove with a reading chair and a relaxing view of the farm. Every room is inviting and comfortable.

The Farm

"A TRANQUIL RURAL SETTING"
Just fifteen minutes from Charlottetown, the capital of Prince Edward Island, Waterside Farm Vacation House offers a peaceful vacation in an elegant farm house, surrounded by water and farmland in a tranquil rural setting.

Pownal Bay is large and reaches out past Point Prim, and Governor's Island to Northumberland Strait and on clear days , one can see the blurry outline of Nova Scotia.

The Bay is rich in wildlife, seals and seabirds, which populate two small, near by Islands that can be reached by boat. There is shellfish along the bay, harvested by fishermen in small dories who comb the mudflats on low tide for the hard shell clams and oysters.

The Vacation House remains part of a working farm, a 100 head, cow calf operation where the cows and their black and tan calves graze on lush pastures that encircle the house and run down to Pownal Bay. In the early mornings, they graze along the water's edge, sometimes shrouded in mist and the dark shades of half sunlight.

We provide evening truck rides through the pasture and if schedule permits, sailing trips around the bay aboard our 25-foot, C&C "Jeffery Boys".

You can also enjoy peaceful trips out and around the bay in a traditional oyster dory.
