The old sheep shearing barn has been converted into modern, spacious, luxurious 3 bed roomed chalets with 2 bathrooms each.
We offer our guests a very child friendly environment.
Surrounding the chalets are large lawns with 2 jungle jims for the kids, a small safe lovely mountain stream murmurs past less than 50 meters away.
Wide open spaces where everybody can walk, play, cycle or do whatever they desire.

· Living areas are fitted with lovely log fireplaces for those cold winter nights
· Patio doors lead onto a wide verandah with braai area
· All bedrooms are upstairs with an easy child friendly staircase
· Spectacular views of the Drakensberg mountains

· Other: No smoking allowed inside the chalet

The magnificent mountains, pristine rivers with its rock pools and waterfalls, open space with crisp clear mountain air, offer the perfect getaway.

Wild rainbow trout abound in the Bell river, making it a fly-fishermans paradise. The region boasts more than 200km of rivers and crystal clear running water in which to cast your fly.

This area were once home to South Africa's first people, the San, as is evidenced in the plethora of rock paintings found throughout these mountains, which can be viewed by prior arrangement.
During December February our wild flowers are truly beautiful and in addition the area boasts with the Naudes Nek Pass, at 2,740m the highest mountain pass in South Africa, as well as Ben Mc Dhui mountain, at 3,001 m the highest peak in the Cape Province.

Kinmel Guest Farm is the perfect gateway to the Tiffendell ski resort, a mere 30 min drive away. We are one of the closest lodges to the resort. Perfectly situated to stay over on your way, or use as a base for day visits to Tiffendell ski resort.

Activities include:
We offer something for everyone, from old to young, the more adventurous or just wishing for some peace and quiet, it’s all to be had.
These include fly-fishing for trout, bird-watching, hiking from short easy strolls to strenuous mountains, mountain biking, quad & 4x4 trails, star-gazing, picnicking, swimming in the river or playing in the rock pools.
In addition, we are a fully functional active farm where guest are invited to acquaint themselves with a variety of farm animals.

Fly fisherman's Paradise:
Wild rainbow trout abound in the Bell river, making it a fly fisherman’s paradise. We have our own stretch of river which we exclusively make available to our guests.

Walking and exploring the farm and surrounding areas, offers guests the opportunity to find many interesting places. A number of different walking/hiking trails are available to enjoy.

Play in the snow till your toes are as cold as your nose ....

During winter time we often have snow on the farm and we offer our guests the opportunity to spend some time in a winter wonderland of snow.

Flora abounds in the area. Best viewed from December to February.
Bird watching offers interesting species. Over 230 species has been identified.

Not for the faint hearted:
The mountainous terrain offers the perfect backdrop for exciting 4 x 4ing of all levels and grades.

The nearly 1000 ha of farm provides a wide range of natural scenic settings for an elegant outdoor wedding ceremony.
Alternatively, there is a quaint sandstone chapel in Rhodes to also consider for the perfect ceremony.

Directions from Free State / Gauteng:
From Bloemfontein take the N6 to Aliwal North. In Aliwal North turn left onto the R58 travelling via Lady Grey to Barkley East. In Barkley take the R396, a gravel road, to Rhodes.
Drive straight through Rhodes onto the Naudes Nek/Maclear road. 1.6 km out of town, having passed the Tiffendel Ski Resort turn of, carry on straight for 500m and turn right where the Kinmel Mountain Retreat sign board indicates.

Directions from KwaZulu-Natal:
From Durban travel to Kokstad. From Kokstad travel on the R56 to Maclear via Matatiele and Mount Fletcher. From Maclear, depending on your vehicle, two options exist:
1. LDV or 4 x 4, take the R396 a gravel road via Naude’s Nek Pass to Rhodes. Depending on road conditions, this trip could take 3 to 4 hours.
2. Sedan car or any vehicle with low ground clearance. Travel to Elliot on the R58 and then on to Barkley East.
Here you take the R396 a gravel road to Rhodes.
