Situated on the edge of Darling, Thought Cottage is set amongst the indigenous Renosterveld in the Langeveldt View complex.
A spiral staircase leads upwards to the loft room with a double bedroom area on one side and a lounge area on the other.
The couch here doubles as a comfy sleeper couch and the bookcase crammed with easy weekend reading makes this a most delightful space in which to while away the hours.
Step out onto the balcony with a glass of fine local wine at sunset and watch the sun slip behind the hills, stay out there a little bit longer and lose track of time counting the stars in the heavens above.
Relax out in the garden where birds abound and a tortoise or two may pass through.
Unwind and absorb the vista that extends uninterrupted towards the horizon. So don’t delay, come spend a day, a week, a month indulging in the niceness that is country living. Slow down, breathe deeply, and let your thoughts wander.

Thought Cottage Accommodation
Self-catering Cottage :The cottage is furnished with everything from heirlooms to Ikea, things from travels through West Africa are dotted here and there and great finds from the antique shops in the village add to the non-conformist decor. It’s a bit of this, a little of that but I hope that you find it charming and welcoming.
An en-suite double room and twin bedroom lend themselves to blissful nights under pure cotton duvets, with electric blankets to warm beds on those chilly winter nights.
The en-suite bathroom is tastefully tiled in travertine and the corner bath under the candle chandelier is more than adequate for two. Bubble bath provided. A second bathroom, with a shower and toilet is to be found adjacent to the twin bedroom.
A spiral staircase leads upwards to the loft room with a double bedroom area on one side and a lounge area on the other. The couch here doubles as a comfy sleeper couch and the bookcase crammed with easy weekend reading makes this a most delightful space in which to while away the hours.
Downstairs is the open-plan fully-equipped kitchen, in case the collection of fine restaurants in the village doesn’t appeal with a lounge complete with fireplace for rainy winter nights and couches that you can spend the day wallowing in watching Ngunis graze contentedly in the neighbouring field.

Back downstairs, a verandah with built-in braai leads out to an indigenous garden which come springtime delights the senses with a riot of wild flowers.

Directions to Thought Cottage
The village of Darling is an easy drive from Cape Town. Head north on the R27 for about 80 km and wave good bye to Table Mountain as it recedes in your rear view mirror.
The R27, West Coast Road can be accessed from the N1 or the M5 out of Cape Town. Follow the R27 through Tableview and up towards Melkbos. At the Melkbos intersection, continue straight on for about 12 km and then turn right at the sign to Atlantis R307.
Follow this road to the T-junction and then turn left towards Darling on the R307. Meander gently up and over the hills through the countryside dotted with sheep and cows, past the turning to Malmesbury and onwards for the last few kilometres to Darling.
As you enter Darling through the avenue of gum trees, take the first road to the left and then turn immediately left again into Vygie Street. Follow Vygie Street as it curves up to the right and then turn left at the entrance between the white walls, this is Langeveldt View.
Thought Cottage is the cottage parallel to the road on your right as you turn to your left. Welcome. Please note, the directions given are for the more scenic route, which is also a bit shorter than the route straight up the West Coast Road. If you choose to take the West Coast Road all the way, turn right at the Yzerfontein intersection and proceed into Darling. At the stop street, turn left go over the four-way stop and head for the other side of Darling, turn right just before the row of gum trees starts on your right-hand side and then immediately left into Vygie street, see above.
