Ullapool
Approximately 60 miles or one hours drive north of Inverness, the fishing village of Ullapool is ideally placed for you to explore the Highlands and many Islands of the west coast of Scotland.

Ullapool village was designed by famous architect Thomas Telford and has a great feeling of space and history in a beautiful relaxed setting. Benwell house is one of the original Ullapool houses, built in the late 18th century, now a conservation area and retains its traditional elegance.

Ullapool itself was built by the British Fisheries Society in 1788, the main part of the village around the sea loch.
Whilst retaining the charm of its original design and purpose, Ullapool now offers a range of facilities for visitors and locals. We have modern shopping outlets along with a vast range of craft and local shops. We also have a considerable number of bars and restaurants, many of which serve great food made from award winning local produce.

The village is nestled on a sheltered natural harbour in Loch Broom. The location has had settlements dating back thousands of years - the view across the loch is to Dun Lagaidh, a Pictish fort - and the name Ullapool is derived from the Norse ‘Ulla-Bolstadr’ meaning ‘Ulla's steading’, evidence of the Viking influence.

Music and Art
Ullapool hosts a local music festival in the village campsite which attracts music fans from far and wide. It is a great weekend and is gaining international fame for fun and talent. Also very popular and much more mellow is the Ullapool Guitar Festival which takes place throughout the village pubs and halls. Many of the local bars have live music performing during the evenings throughout the year.

There is also an arts centre in the village along with a good number of craft shops offering quality local handmade products.

Ullapool Leisure Centre
Ullapool has a leisure centre with a gym and heated pool and a range of activities available for children and adults alike. Also a museum, art gallery, theatre, library and fabulous bookshops.

Ullapool Museum
Award Winning Ullapool Museum & Visitor Centre. Housed within a restored Thomas Telford Parliamentary Church, originally built in 1829, the Museum tells the story of Lochbroom - the land and its people, through a blend of traditional and multimedia displays.

Ullapool Golf Course
A nine-hole course on the banks of Loch Broom. Take in views of the loch and Summer Isles whilst enjoying a round of golf.

Exploring the Islands
The ferry to the Outer Hebrides leaves the harbour daily. This can be taken for trips and excursions to the islands of Lewis and Harris better known as the Outer Hebrides. There are also two local boats running short trips from Ullapool to the Summer Islands.

Highland Stoneware Pottery
Internationally famous stoneware pottery with an outlet in the village where you can see designs being made.

Walks and exploring
The coastline is surrounded by some stunning beaches beaches and walks. Within a few miles drive there are also attractions such as Corrieshalloch Gorge (the highest waterfall in Scotland), Leckmelm Gardens, Lael Forest and Ardmair Bay.
