Ullapool, an appealing port and resort in Wester Ross, the fishing port of Ullapool in Wester Ross comes alive in summer when it receives a large influx of holidaymakers. Many move on by ferry to Stornoway on Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, but it is a good base for exploring the area, and has a marvellous setting jutting out into Loch Broom. Ullapool Accommodation Two traditional cottages offering comfortable self-catering accommodation within the conservation area of Ullapool, Wester Ross, in the Northern Highlands, North West Scotland.

An area of outstanding natural beauty with SSSI and SPAs. Ideal for activity holiday, e.g. walking, climbing, golfing, fishing with crofting townships where North Country cheviot sheep are bred.


We call the wee house Beinn Ghobhlach. The bigger house is called Carnfune. It is a traditional Scottish brown-pink sandstone.

Bein Ghobhlach Accommodation

‘A traditional single-storey cottage sleeping four, providing self-catering accommodation in the conservation area of Ullapool. Beinn Ghobhlach is a ‘wee house’, situated close to the centre of the fishing village of Ullapool, with everything accessible at ground level. The cottage provides an ideal holiday base for touring North West Scotland.

The rooms are spacious and well equipped, offering practical and comfortable accommodation for up to four people. There is one double bedroom, one twin bedroom and a sitting room with colour TV. The modern kitchen / dining area and shower room are well equipped.

Oil-fired central heating, which is included in the rent, heats all rooms in the cottage and provides hot water. A coal fire is also available in the sitting room. Car parking, off-street, is available opposite the cottage, and there is a small, secure garden at the rear.

Beinn Ghobhlach Cottage is available for weekly bookings from Saturday to Saturday (arriving after 3.00pm and leaving before 10.00am). Heating is included in the rent; electricity (for lighting and cooking) is bought from a meter which uses £1 coins.

Both cottages offer these facilities:

. All bed linen and towels are provided at no extra charge.
. Electric blankets are available for all beds.
. A cot for young children is available on request.
. The fitted kitchen contains an electric cooker, microwave cooker, fridge and automatic washing machine and tumble drier.
. The bathroom is fitted with a bath, shower, wash-basin and toilet.
. One of the double bedrooms has a wash-basin.
. A hair-dryer is available.
. A colour television is situated in the sitting room.

Shops offering interesting local produce, modern supermarkets and a wide range of non-food shops are within easy reach of the cottage, in the village centre at Ullapool (2-3 minutes’ walk away). Groceries can be ordered for your arrival if a week’s notice is provided. Ullapool offers many places to eat out — from local fish and chips and pub meals to top quality restaurants

Plenty to do … Plenty to see
Whether you want a relaxing break, leisurely pottering around local shops and craft workshops, or a hectic programme of sporting activities, the North West Highlands of Scotland offer a unique holiday destination.

The natural scenery of high mountains, rugged coastline and quaint crafting hamlets is timeless and stunning; the Highlanders are warmly hospitable; and there is abundant open space and uncongested roads. Ullapool is centrally located and an ideal base for exploring the Highlands and Islands.

Ferries sail to the Western Isles and there are cruises to the Summer Isles. For those whose pleasure is observing the natural world, there is ample opportunity for birdwatching, exploring the shore- and sea-life and photographing flora and fauna.

Superb fishing, golf, sailing, climbing and walking are all within a few minutes’ drive from Ullapool. And even in wet weather, Ullapool’s modern Leisure Centre offers swimming, fitness and games facilities.

Many Highland landmarks and historic sites are but a short distance from Ullapool; the Falls of Measach in the Corrieshallach Gorge, the world famous Inverewe Gardens, the Polly Nature Reserve, the sands at Gruinard Bay and Achnahaird, the Lael Forest Garden and Trail, the 1870s arboretum and walled garden at Leckmelm, and , at Achiltibuie, the smokehouse for game and poultry and the hydroponicum with exotic fruits and vegetables.

DIRECTIONS
Ullapool is on the northern shores of Loch Broom, approximately 60 miles (1¼ hours) from Inverness on the A835. On entering the village, the main road takes a sharp right-hand turn into Mill Street after passing the Royal Hotel. Beinn Ghobhlach is just past the second turning on the left.
