Ullapool, an appealing port and resort in Wester Ross, the fishing port of Ullapool in Wester Ross comes alive in summer when it receives a large influx of holidaymakers. Many move on by ferry to Stornoway on Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, but it is a good base for exploring the area, and has a marvellous setting jutting out into Loch Broom. Attractions include the award-winning Ullapool Museum and a multitude of craft shops and galleries.

Luxury Holiday Cottage in Ullapool

This attractive house sleeps 7 and is conveniently situated in a quiet residential cul-de-sac at the foot of the hills surrounding Ullapool. Built in 2007 to a high specification, the house is well equipped and has been tastefully furnished, with a 4 star grading (ie "excellent") by Visit Scotland. It is within 5 minutes walking distance of the many shops, restaurants and pubs in this popular Highland resort. A stroll along the seafront leads to the fishing pier on Loch Broom, where boats from all over the world unload their catches and ferries leave daily for the Western Isles and the Summer Isles. We regret no smoking or pets.

Warmed by the Gulf Stream, Ullapool sits amongst spectacular scenery and is an ideal base for exploring the north west coast of Scotland, with superb vistas of coast, moors, mountains and picturesque villages. The town has a challenging 9 hole golf course, a modern leisure centre with large swimming pool, and there are plenty of opportunities for walking, mountain biking, sea angling and sailing.

How to find Ailleag.Ullapool Accommodation
Ailleag is on the outskirts of Ullapool, which sits at the head of Loch Broom on the North West Coast of Scotland. It is about an hour's drive from Inverness along the A835.

Shortly after you come into Ullapool from this direction, follow the road as it turns to the right. Royal Park will be the next on your right, just before Ullapool High School. Follow Royal Park road as it turns to the right. Ailleag is in the top left hand corner of a small cul-de-sac.


Plenty to see & do in the area

Ullapool Village
The village itself has a museum, a theatre, two supermarkets, and a wide selection of pubs and restaurants, several of which host live music. There are annual book and music festivals, including the famous Loopallu pop concerts. The Leisure Centre has a large swimming pool and tennis courts.

Golf
There is a nine hole golf course, opened by Prince Andrew, with a touch of links and moorland to it and great views of Loch Broom and the Summer Isles. Non-members welcome and club hire available.

Walking
Ailleag is situated at the start of the path up to Ullapool Hill, and there are numerous footpaths along rocky coasts and peaceful Lochs. The area has some of the finest summits in the north west highlands, including the iconic Stach Pollaidh.

Fishing
Ullapool offers both loch or sea fishing and permits can be purchased in the local shops.

Boat Trips
The Stornoway ferry leaves daily for the Isle of Lewis, and the Summer Queen has shorter cruises to Isle Martin bird sanctuary and seal isles.

Beaches
Gruinard Bay - 45 minutes by car - has three beautiful beaches, with pink sand from the Torridon rocks, whilst close to Lochinver are the Sands of Achmelvich.

Gardens
The world famous Inverewe Gardens are a 50 minute drive away, a remarkable array of plants showing the impact of the Gulf Stream. Leckmelm Garden and Lael Forest Garden are a few miles from Ullapool whilst on the shore of Loch Chairn Bhairn, Kerrachar Garden is a true plantsman's garden.

Other Attractions
Mountain bikes can be hired in the village, pony trekking can be arranged and a little further afield is the bird sanctuary on Handa Island.
