Rugged scenery, quiet sandy beaches, an abundance of natural history and archaeological sites are just some of the many reasons to visit these beautiful northerly islands. The pictureseque harbourfront and marina or the town centre, dominated by the magnificent 12th century St Magnus Cathedral are a pleasant 10-15 minute walk from Kjarstad. This superb, well-equipped accommodation is located in Orkney's main town of Kirkwall, in a quiet residential area, yet only 10 minutes walk from the town centre and it's many amenities. Kjarstad is ideally located for exploring all areas of mainland Orkney as well as island-hopping by ferry or air. Ferry services to the north isles and Kirkwall Airport are just minutes away by car, while the south isles are easily accessed from Houton terminal which is about 20 minutes from Kirkwall.

All on one level, the accommodation is centrally heated throughout and has a lounge with stone fireplace and real flame gas fire, leading through to the conservatory. Tasteful decor and furnishings, satellite TV, DVD player, video player and CD music system combine to create an ambience that is both comfortable and relaxing.

The open-plan kitchen/dining room is fully equipped with breakfast bar, dishwasher, gas hob, electric oven and microwave, while the washing machine and tumble dryer are located in the adjoining utility room. In the spacious hall, you will find desk space and an internet access point. A library of books, music, DVD's and games are available for guests.

There are two double bedrooms and one bedroom with bunk beds, all of which have ample wardrobe and drawer space. Seperate bathroom and shower rooms are provided too. Cot, highchair and fireguard are available.

Landscaped gardens surround the property and off-road parking for 2 cars is available in the private driveway.

Getting to Kjarstad
From Kirkwall T.I.C. go out on to Junction Road turn lef on to Castle Street then tun right and follow the road past Orkney hotelsthe Cathedral towards the left onto Palace Road. Continue onto Dundas Crescent and then onto Bignold Park Road. Continue past the signpost for St. Mary’s (on your right), then turn left. Drive past Kirkwall Grammar School (on your left) and take the first right into Reid Crescent. Drive towards house with high-peaked roof and Kjarstad is the 3rd house on the right.

From Stromness:
From Ferry terminal: approx 15.8 miles
Turn right when leaving ferry terminal and take A965 towards Stenness. Drive through Stenness (watch for the Maeshowe tomb on your left at Tormiston Mill). Continue on A965 through Finstown and onto Kirkwall. At roundabout take the third exit onto Pickaquoy Road. This takes you past the leisure centre and supermarkets. At the roundabout take the 2nd exit onto Junction Road and then the first left onto Clay Loan. At the top of Clay Loan, turn right onto Bignold Park Road (A960). Continue past the signpost for St. Mary’s (on your right), then turn left. Drive past Kirkwall Grammar School (on your left) and take the first right into Reid Crescent. Drive towards house with high-peaked roof and Kjarstad is the 3rd house on the right.
Getting there by Aeroplane

From Kirkwall Airport: approximately 2.1 miles
Turn right when leaving Kirkwall Airport, travel on the A960 towards Kirkwall. Continue past 40 mile and 30 mile road signs. Turn right into The Meadows. Drive past Kirkwall Grammar School (on your left) and take the first right into Reid Crescent. Drive towards house with high-peaked roof and Kjarstad is the 3rd house on the right.
Getting There by Ferry

From Kirkwall Ferry Terminal: approx 2.1 mls: Follow A965 towards Kirkwall. At roundabout at Filling Station take exit onto Pickaquoy Road. Drive past leisure centre & supermarkets. At roundabout take 2nd exit onto Junction Road and then first left onto Clay Loan. At top of Clay Loan, turn right onto Bignold Park Road. Continue past signpost for St. Mary’s (on right), then turn left. Drive past Kirkwall Grammar School (on left) and take first right into Reid Crescent. Drive towards house with high-peaked roof and Kjarstad is 3rd house on right.
