Oban hotel Tigh Mhor is a superb purpose-built four bedroom house in a good-sized garden and with partial views to the Morvern hills with glimpses of the sea.

Tigh Mhor Accommodation

It is very well equipped, light, airy and spacious with an upstairs lounge. It has efficient oil heating, underfloor downstairs and radiators upstairs, also a wood burning stove in the lounge.

Tigh Mhor is designed to comfortably accommodate up to eight persons in four bedrooms. On the ground floor there is one twin and one double bedroom, a bathroom (bath with shower over, toilet and wash basin), a dining room open to a well equipped kitchen, including dishwasher - through to utility room with washing machine and tumble drier.

On the first floor is a spacious open plan lounge with wonderful outlook and wood burning stove. Also ensuite master bedroom, one twin bedroom and shower room with shower, toilet and wash basin.

Outside there is a good-sized garden with garden furniture for comfortable outside dining and parking for two cars in the drive.

Electricity and starter pack of fuel for the fire (where relevant) is included in the price. In order to keep rentals down, we only provide linen and towels by request at a charge. If you would like these we will usually make up the beds for you in advance so all is ready for your first night, we also provide tea towels and a table cloth.

Pets
We do not currently accept pets in Tigh Mhor.

Connel has an excellent shop and Post Office and a good selection of hotel/restaurants within a few miles. The ferry/fishing port of Oban is just 5 miles.

Activities and Attractions
There is plenty to do and see in the area with excellent walking in the immediate vicinity and Glencoe only about 30 miles away. The area has a rich history and there are many sites open to the public with more to find by exploring. Boating, fishing, riding and golf are available locally and many beautiful gardens open to the public.

The weather on the coast is generally much better than you might expect but there is no shortage of wet weather pursuits if necessary, Oban has a sports centre with swimming and other sports and there are many less strenuous indoor interests such as distilleries and country houses to visit.

There are a number of excellent places to eat not far away, two or three within walking distance.

The ferry/fishing port of Oban is approximately 5 miles where you can find a large Tesco and other grocery and specialist shops as well as a wide selection of restaurants. Ferries leave here for Mull, Iona and several other islands which can be visited for the day.

Argyll is noted for its loch and mountain scenery and has extensive scope for outdoor activities. Oban is a lively small town and is quite atmospheric especially in the evenings, it is a major ferry and fishing port and ferries leave daily for Mull and several other islands which can easily be visited for the day, including Iona.

You can expect to see an amazing selection of wildlife and scenery on the way to, and on, any one of these islands as well as the historic and atmospheric Iona Abbey.

Glen Coe is less than 30 miles, Fort William, with Ben Nevis dominating the Glen behind, is about an hour’s drive - this area is considered to be “the outdoor capital of the UK”.

The entire area is rich in history with many sites open to the public and more to be found by exploring. Walking is excellent and can be enjoyed by super-fit munroists and less fit amblers alike. Golf, fishing, riding, canoeing, scuba diving and karting are all available locally.

Also a sealife centre, indoor sports & swimming pool, smokery, various castles and many more outdoor and indoor pursuits including a two screen cinema.

Shopping in Oban is good with two large supermarkets, two value food stores and a variety of tourist shops. There is a very good selection of restaurants too. The local Connel shop and Post Office, ¾ mile from The Lodge, is also excellent and friendly.

DIRECTIONS
Getting there from the Information Centre:

Leave Oban on A85 Glasgow road. In approx 4 miles, enter village of Connel. About 100 yards after 30 mph limit sign take 1st right at sign Craigard and Tigh Mhor. Drive up and round to the top of the road, through the wooden gates and you are there.

Getting There by Car:
See above or, if arriving from the Glasgow end, drive through most of the village along the lochside, under the steel bridge. Pass the turning to Ft William and carry on about 200 yards past a row of bed and breakfast houses.

After “Mactalla” then “Ards House” take next left by sign for Craigard and Tigh Mhor and continue to the far top and through the wooden gates.

Getting There by Railway:
Glasgow Queen Street to Oban line. Alight at Connel, walk down to main road, turn left and walk about ¾ mile then walk up private road on left to Tigh Mhor (see above). We may be able to meet the train by arrangement, please ask in advance.

Getting there by Aeroplane:
Fly to Glasgow International and hire a car.

Getting There by Ferry:
Arrive Oban, take taxi (rank by the station), bus or hire a car. We may be able to meet a ferry by arrangement, please ask in advance.
