Other places to stay in and around Oban
Failte is a charming Victorian Villa set in a quiet yet central location
in an elevated position overlooking Oban Bay.
It also less than a 10 minute walk from rail and bus station, ferry terminal and Oban town centre where shops and restaurants can be found as well as the towns renowned whisky distillery.
From Failte it is only a short walk to the famous landmark McCaig's Tower.
Here you will be rewarded with magnificent views over the town and islands.
You will also find this an excellent vantage point to view
some amazing sunsets if your timing is right!
Failte Bed and Breakfast Accommodation
The bedrooms have all recently been refurbished and are all equipped with en suite shower rooms, hospitality trays, hairdryers and mini fridges. There is also wireless internet connection available. The bedrooms like the house, are completely non-smoking.
There is limited off street parking available.
Breakfast
Breakfast is served in our dining room at individual tables. Our breakfasts
are generous with choices ranging from full Scottish breakfast, scrambled
eggs with smoked salmon to simply cereal, fruit, yogurt etc. and will
set the traveller up for a full days exploring the area. We also cater
for vegetarian diets although prior notice would be be welcome.
The Town of Oban
Oban is a busy and elegant seaside town on the west coast of Argyll. It
is also a ferry port for travellers heading to the islands. Ferries go
from Oban to Colonsay, Mull, Tiree, Coll, Barra and Lismore as well as
Kerrera.
There is always plenty to do and see in and around Oban such a visit to the Oban Distillery, or perhaps the excellent War and Peace Museum. Atlantis Leisure provides many indoor exercise opportunities including a great swimming pool.
There are many boat trips to see seals or to go fishing as well as the Ferry trips to some of the islands. The Oban area also has great walks which can be combined with a visit to Kerrera, or perhaps a stroll along the promenade and then to Dunollie Castle which overlooks the northern entrance to Oban Bay.
If you are staying in Oban for a few days then you might wants to do some short trips. The Atlantic Bridge at nearby Seil Island and then onwards to the Island of Easdale is a great day out.
Another small trip to the Scottish Sea Life Sanctuary at Barcaldine or maybe a visit to the "Hollow Mountain" at the Cruachan Dam Visitor Centre.
On the way back you could visit the InverAwe Smoke House or perhaps the Iron Furnace at Taynuilt. There are so many places to visit and things to see you will never be bored.
If you are an outdoor person, then there are cycle tracks, walks, beaches, a dive centre Kayak hire and tuition, dingy sailing and much more.
DIRECTIONS
Getting there from the Information Centre:
200m up George Street turn right into Stevenson Street and then left into
Hill Street. Continue up hill and round sharp bend and Failte is approx
600m up Rockfield Road on the right hand side.
Getting There by Car:
At second set of traffic lights turn left into Stevenson Street and then
left into Hill Street. Continue up hill and round sharp bend and Failte
is approx 600m up Rockfield Road on the right hand side.
Getting There by Railway:
From the railway station you will see the Caledonian Hotel. Keep this
on your left hand side and cross George Street at the traffic lights and
turn left into Stevenson Street. You will see footpath to side of Rockfield
School Car Park. At top of hill you will see a church.
If you continue up hill to your left you will be on Rockfield Road. Failte is approx 600m up hill on right hand side.
Getting There by Ferry:
The ferry terminal is beside the railway station. Follow directions for
getting there by railway.
