With beds from the U.S. and furniture from Europe and the Far East there is something for everyone. Our deluxe bedrooms have king size beds, some have king size four posters. Most have panoramic views over Oban Bay, towards the Isle of Kerrera and the largest island in the Inner Hebrides, the Isle of Mull.

Corriemar has 14 bedrooms including doubles, twins and even two four poster beds. All have been attractively furnished and have private facilities, colour television with Freeview, DVD player, tea/coffee hospitality tray and hair dryer. Some rooms enjoy fine panoramas over Oban Bay. Seven rooms have sea views.

Please note that whilst we endeavour to accommodate guests in their preferred rooms, this is not always possible.

Corriemar also has a large, airy and comfortable dining room where breakfast is served. Guests also have the use of the conservatory and sitting room. Complimentary coffee can be taken and enjoyed on the patio.

There is ample private parking and unrestricted road parking.

About Oban and the area
Oban is a very picturesque fishing town on the West Coast of Scotland. Built around a natural bay, it is hard to escape the sight of the sea. Oban is also surrounded by islands, the nearest, Kerrera being only a very accessible 5 minutes ferry trip away.

Caledonian MacBrayne run ferries from Oban to Mull, Coll and Tiree, Lismore, Barra and South Uist and Colonsay, and due to this, Oban has come to be known as the Gateway to the Isles.

Corriemar is built on the Esplanade with a level walk to the centre of the town. The views of the bay from the guest house are superb, especially in the evening when the sun sets over the hills to the west.

Oban itself has a great many places to eat and drink, from small cafes and takeaways to top class restaurants. It also has a wide range of shops and supermarkets. There is a pleasant sandy beach about 2 miles from Corriemar with parking facilities.

Atlantis Leisure in Oban comprises a large swimming pool with flume as well as a large sports hall, gym, climbing wall, tennis courts, soft play area and play park. There is also a theatre and many of the local pubs have a variety of live entertainment on offer. If you want to learn a new skill, you can try diving or sailing.

For those visitors who are interested in the abundance of birds and wildlife in the surrounding area, there are boat trips to local islands where puffins, kittiwakes, fulmars and much, much more can be seen. There are several tours available, including trips to the Treshnish Isles and the Isle of Staffa where Fingal's Cave can be visited.

Closer to Oban and on the mainland is the Oban Seal Sanctuary where visitors can watch the rescued seals and seal pups being fed as well as the otters and various types of fish in their pools and tanks.

Closer to home, behind Corriemar Guest House lies Dunollie Woods with its paths and walks. Here there are many birds from our own blackbird to our more speedy summer visitors the swift and the swallow. Occasionally that rare but most interesting of sights can be seen; the red squirrel.

History
Corriemar House was completed in 1897 and six years later the Duke of Argyll officially opened the new Promenade extension and the road to Ganavan.

Situated less than half a mile from Dunollie Castle, the historic heartland of the Clan MacDougall, and within easy walking distance of the town, Corriemar is in an excellent position to be used as a base for touring the historic land of Lorne.

With the Caledonian MacBrayne ships travelling to the islands from Oban, and the excellent bus and train connections, it's no wonder Oban was called the "Charing Cross of the Highlands" and is now known as the "Gateway to the Isles".

Recently we were sent a small brochure of Corriemar Guest House from a lady who stayed here many years ago. The private hotel then boasted of 'separate tables', 'Vi-spring beds in all bedrooms' and 'Hot and Cold in all bedrooms'.

DIRECTIONS
If you are approaching Oban on the A85 from Glasgow or Fort William you will drive down the hill into Oban with the Oban seafront straight ahead. Go into the right hand lane and go right at the roundabout, following signs to Ganavan (the road on your left takes you into the town).

This will bring you onto the seafront. Drive past the Alexandra Hotel and the cathedral and you will soon see the Corriemar House sign on your right.

If you are coming from south of Oban, drive right through the town as if you were heading for Glasgow or Fort William. Instead of turning right at the roundabout which takes you to Glasgow, keep to the left along the Esplanade with the sea on your left. Corriemar is about a quarter of a mile along the Esplanade.
