The town is overlooked by McCaig's Tower which is a replica of the coliseum in Rome. You can walk up to the tower and get a panoramic view across Oban and over to Mull. It is especially scenic at sunset.

There are many castles and historic buildings to visit, all with enormous local history, more details can be found at the Tourist Information Centre.

Oban has its own whisky distillery which produces Oban single malt, and that is worth a visit.
