Lochinver hotels Set in the coastal village of Lochinver, Seafield House is a spacious seafront house, sleeping up to 10. Ideal for families, groups of walkers, fishermen or bird-watchers, the house and the surrounding countryside have something for everyone.

Seafield House was built in the late 1800s by a shoemaker, on land bought from the Earl of Sutherland. The house retains its traditional character and is located right on the seafront in the coastal village of Lochinver.

Despite the village location and proximity to shops and excellent dining options, wilderness is right on the doorstep, and much wildlife can be seen without leaving the house! Looking over the sea from the bedroom windows gives regular sightings of herons, red-throated divers, seals, mergansers, cormorants, skuas, oystercatchers and eider ducks. Most windows in the house face the sea and the reflected light gives the house a brightness and airiness, even on the dullest of days.

Seafield House Accommodation

The house is spacious and sleeps 8-10 people comfortably. The accommodation comprises 5 bedrooms, three bathrooms (one en-suite), lounge, dining room and kitchen. Outside there is a sizeable garden that contains a number of mature trees.

Ground Floor:
The lounge is the place to relax after a day out in the fresh air, furnished with comfortable sofas and armchairs.
There is a flat screen television and a DVD player, as well as a selection of DVD's and books. The centrepiece is the recently fitted wood-burning stove.

The dining room at the other end of the house is heated by a traditional oil fired Rayburn range, which can also be used for oven cooking. A large rustic table has room enough to seat up to 10 diners. The dining room gives to the kitchen which is in an extension at the back of the house.

The kitchen is equipped with a large fridge-freezer, dishwasher, microwave/convection combination oven, hob and dishwasher, and looks out over the garden.

The downstairs bathroom is equipped for disabled use.

First Floor:
The first floor accommodation comprises three bedrooms and the family bathroom. There are two double bedrooms, one of which is en-suite, as well as a bunk bedroom, ideal for children, although the beds are full size. Both double bedrooms and the spacious landing have large sea-facing windows.

Second Floor:
The second floor accommodation comprises a spacious landing area and two bedrooms, one with a double bed, the other with twin beds. Again, both bedrooms have windows facing the sea.

Activities
Seafield House is an excellent base for many outdoor activities. For walkers there are options of short local coastal or hill-walks, and for more ambitious types, there are a number of spectacular mountain walks in the local area.

The iconic mountain Suilven can be reached, after several hours, walking directly from Seafield House. Other local and recommended climbs include Canisp, Quinaig, Cul Mor, Cul Beag, Ben More Assynt and Conival.

Beautiful beaches are found at Achnahaird, Achmelvich, Clashnessie and Clachtoll – all within a short drive. Achmelvich can be reached on foot via a path from the North of the village.

There is fishing for all levels and tastes. Good mackerel fishing can be had from the village pier, and there are many lochs and rivers for trout fishing. Lochinver has a small marina where boats can be moored very cheaply.

For cyclists the roads are very quiet, though far from flat, with a number of circular routes available for those prepared to go 40 miles or more in a day. Boat trips can be taken from Kylesku to the North and Ullapool to the South.

For bird watchers there is much to see, from the large number of garden birds through the kitchen window to a wealth of sea birds, waders and birds of prey. A visit to Handa Island from May to July is particularly recommended to view breeding great and arctic skuas, and puffins.

DIRECTIONS
Lochinver is a small village, but has excellent facilities for its size. There is a supermarket, a tourist information centre, a butcher that also sells local seafood, a newsagents and a number of excellent places to eat including a Michelin starred restaurant.

It is about 2 hours drive North-West of Inverness, and is reached via the A835 from Ullapool and then turning left at Ledmore Junction onto the A837. Seafield House is reached after driving through the village and passing the church on the right. If you get to the Tourist Information Centre you have gone too far.

There are regular flights to Inverness from several UK airports, including Luton, Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, Belfast and Bristol.
