Local Attractions
When you arrive at Largs you will very quickly discover why it was voted Scotland's "Top Tourism Town". The horseshoe shape of Largs Bay, together with the "Great Cumbrae" only one mile offshore, has made this pretty west coast resort a popular sailing base with anchorage for all craft.

Everything you would expect to find at a top seaside resort is here and so much more besides! Take a leisurely stroll along the beautiful promenade or treat yourself to a meal in any one of the many restaurants and sample the excellent quality of local produce.

No visit to Largs would be complete without sampling the real Italian ice-cream from the world famous Nardini.

Largs area
As with so many of Scotland's towns and villages Largs has a fascinating history to tell. Just to the south of the town lies the site of the Battle of Largs where in 1263 Alexander III annihilated the Viking fleet which had crossed from Arran and thereby ended the Norse invasion of Scotland.

Largs is justly proud of this turning point in Scotland's history, as can be seen in the recently opened Vikingar Experience on the seafront. If you want more information about this area of Scotland take a look at our dedicated history section!

Largs is the ideal base from which to explore the many west coast islands including the Great Cumbrae (just a mile off shore!) and its resort town of Millport with it's sandy beaches. Millport is also home to the smallest cathedral in Europe!

Local Events
. June: Jazz Festival (1st weekend), Brisbane Queen
. July: Round Table Duck Race, Warrenpark open day
. August: W. Kil'b Scarecrows, Honda Powerboat
. September: Viking festival (1st week), Millport C&W Festival (1st weekend)
. November: Fireworks at Pencil (1st Saturday)
. December: Yuletide Night (1st Thursday)

Arran, one of the most scenic islands of the west coast, is also within easy reach with its spectacular Castle and gardens at Brodick. There is a regular ferry service to all the islands and the famous Waverley Paddle Steamer makes regular trips from Largs during the summer months.
